    Because it cedes power.
And if you give poor people money, they'll spend it all.
Boosts GDP. And a significant amount of that spending will be on high-tax items (booze, fags).
    Win-win!
I sometimes wish I were not so cynical.

I see Corbyn as tantamount to using a hammer to crack a nut.
    My own thoughts on this.
    1) Welfare needs massive reform (in particular, moving it towards a contribution-based system). Why don't the government want to install this change? Are they fearful of rioting, revolution, being seen to look harsh on poor people (whether unfortunate or just "playing the game")? A lot of things they could change they claim they can't because of the EU. If this is true, then let's remove this particularly piece from the playing field.
    2) Proper Brexit means the EU excuse is no longer valid. MPs now become responsible for their actions. So why don't the government reform the system now? One or more of the aforementioned reasons?
The economy can be slowly brought back into shape by balancing the budget (this does not mean taxing more, but enacting proper austerity to make sure the figures add up). Stop paying so much housing benefit and the utility of property brings its value back down in line with what people earn, leaving sufficient disposable to keep important parts of the economy ticking over.
Corbyn will do none of these things and his printing will just exacerbate the issues, making the over-correction much more severe.
Pain is coming. There's no doubt about that. The government does have some control over how severe it will be and over what duration. The present system is death by 1000 cuts for most, hence the Gillet Jaune movement.

    It's pathetic.

Funny, had this conversation last night.  How ignorance can be bliss, and the opposite - as here!  I therefore see this place as a self help group for those who foolishly scraped the veneer that surrounds them and are therefore dealing with the immense pain of a little knowledge.

We're all obsessed by things that give us meaning.  I have multiple obsessions and my life is full of meaning.
Perhaps the panel would like to expose their obsessions and the meaning they give them.

Given the roots of the forum I would suggest our group makeup is strongly contrarian, market-aware and priced out..or any combination of the above.
I think it makes quite an interesting mix.

59 million is about a 12% increase in the immigrant population per EU country or about 8% increase per European country if split equally.
The Uk current immigrant population is supposedly about 14%, so it would probably be double that number if her suggestions came to pass.

Edit it to add: I wonder if these things are planned to stagger over census years, so the figures aren't fully observed for the best part of a further decade?

Not where you are going, anyway. They are not big on makeup, like they are in some parts of the UK. I'm glad the joke was "approved". If always thought of a government department called "OFFGAG" to make sure jokes are funny enough, but OFFGAG, might disagree with ASA?
I see quite a few people who have nearly nothing after 40 years work. Some seem to be much luckier. I won't be destitute, but will not be having the retirement of a charity CEO.

Well if I you consider what the SNP want, an independent Scotland that can be part of the EU. And so IF Scotland could gain independence from UK they by default are out of the Withdrawal Agreement (as they would leave the UK) and any of its consequences. An independent Scotland could then negotiate the same (advantageous) terms as NI would get from the terms of the WI. Remember Krankie was moaning about the Withdrawal Agreement giving NI an advantage over Scotland.
So if Krankie and the SNP vote for May's WI deal and are promised a referendum (which they beleive they will win this time and so leave the UK)  then a WIn for SNP with Scotland back into EU and out of UK. May gets her deal through parliment and EU get their backstop. Assuiming the numbers all work to allow this to happen!

Not really. It's weird seeing all the games that have come out since I last played a lot (GTA:SA, around 2004).
I'm sure I've mentioned before that my brother is a games programmer and finished work on a multiplayer arcade-genre game a few months back. Pick up and play for a few minutes.
Small up-front cost, no micro-transactions, rated 5/5 on Eurogamer. Died on its arse.
Fortnite/PUBG has basically killed the gaming world, the former moreso due to it being free+micro-transactions.
I got Rome and Med2 but Med was definitely my favourite by a long way (but then original Civ was my favourite in its family because it was so easy to pick up and play)

Essentially most younger players (most gamers) are peer pressured into what they play. Modern kids play online Fortnite as a form as socialising (previous generations would have been down the park, or at least playing co-op in someone's house).
Older gamers want solo mode with a story. These games barely exist any more.
South Park are on the money again re: mobile gaming but this also applies to Fortnite (who make their money from cosmetic sales).

I remember earlier this year seeing Stewart Lee do a "bit" about buying his own DVDs and reselling them because he got a higher markup than he got from selling new (after costs). Think he found the cheapest and then undercut next cheapest by a few pence, making about 80p per sale or something.
    If I wasn't on in-laws wifi I'd try and find a clip.
