Was that the sort of place where the price ticket says £60, but you're supposed to ignore that, and ask what the price is . Seller then says £40, and you say £30, and he says yes?
I hate that. Mainly because I've never understood it!
Saw something for sale online the other day, and it said...The price is £30 if you want to haggle, or £25 if you don't.

    I blame the millennium bug.
I'm 60 now. Back around the year 2000, if I looked back to 1980, I was remembering 20 years ago, and it seemed like ages. Almost another lifetime.
Now , here I am in 2020, and if I look back to 2000, it feels like about 10 years ago.
So I've lost 10 bloody years somewhere.

Why would masks ever be compulsory in shops, while not being compulsory in all work places?
I spend 12 hours a day at work, a lot closer to other people than I'd ever get in any shop.

    I wouldn't worry about it.
It's very unlikely anything happening that far away in China will have any impact in this country.

You’re misunderstanding the type of person I am.
I don’t watch news, don’t engage in social media, I am a member of a small family, no close friends, loads of acquaintances. I’ve always interacted socially chatting with people and I’m hearing nothing but doom and gloom and lots of unhappy people.
No one, apart from a couple of acquaintances, has a clear head and happy outlook in my rural area. I don’t say anything now that the response to the virus is, in my opinion, bullshit because it’s obvious folk think I’m stupid/selfish/ looney....lol

The only thing you are missing is the divide between public and private sector. In the last recession swathes of public sector workers in safe jobs picked up residential BTL's and holiday lets/homes, as their job security meant they could get mortgages. Even before Covid, Boris was pouring money into the NHS and Police. They will do very well with secure jobs and now they have a stamp duty holiday to help pick up another BTL or holiday let/home. The role of an increasing amount of young private sector workers is to rent for life from public sector workers, who have purchased assets using the worker's taxes as their wages in their safe and cushy jobs.
Re the US sending cheques, I put myself on the electoral roll last year expecting helicopter money this year for a then unknown excuse. I left the address and have gone back off grid but wouldn't have got anything anyway.
