I've been reading this site for a while and never registered but thought I would share an insight from my little corner of England.
We are currently advertising a job (due to a member of staff going lockdown loopy and deciding to move back to the delights of the north west (Oldham way) because of an unwise BTL gone wrong) and on the indeed job website they send you a daily update of the numbers of people who have lodged their cv in the past 24 hours. It focuses on the words in the job title you post, I think, so most of them aren't actually of any interest to me but it is interesting. Most days it has been 1 or 2 but then on Friday it was 64 and today 40. An awful lot of people in the car sales business seem to be losing their jobs as they form a significant proportion of those listed.
Clearly, it isn't scientific but if it is in any way representative of what is going on then I would say an awful lot of people have been told in the last few days that redundancy is coming their way. My guess is that as furlough unwinds this will only get worse.
To be honest, my business was closed for two months in April and May and although trade was a bit slow to start with after we re-opened things are almost normal now. Seeing this makes me wonder how long it will be before the second round effects start to impact us.
