Shittiness is in the eye of the beholder.

I grew up "somewhere shit", but I find myself missing the place nowadays. Normal, grounded people who judge you on what you're like, not which school you managed to get your kids into or which cafe you buy your coffee at.

True. Shitty town in the midlands for me. Couldn't get out of there fast enough, reached escape velocity aged 17.

But... it was certainly the most grounded place I've lived. Full of aggressive, violent bellends but there were also a lot of solid, dependable, decent people there. I wouldn't go back (it's changed, everyone I knew has moved on) but I find myself surprisingly nostalgic about that era of my life.

(Not that I've contributed much to this thread except for reps and silently nodding in agreement with some of the less technical posts, but it has helped inform my own investment decisions and I'm grateful for that.)

Im not an oil expert like some on here but I find this guy really good at giving an overview of the whole oil situation. His last point at about 50 minutes highlights the efficiency of oil as a power source over others, and basically means that we will have to accept achieving 4 times less for the same amount of current green energy OR to put that another way, whatever the cost of future green energy if oil is less than 4 times this it will be a cheaper alternative [assuming oil is not carbon taxed]......anybody know the current $ price of producing the equivalent barrel unit of green energy?

Alternatively, if we are not able to produce enough green energy equivalent of current oil usage we will have to accept lower levels of economic growth, and so lower levels of tax gain [in a time where less people are going to be unemployed so it needs to be greater], and/or for the Developed nations a lower standard of living....can't see this happening/being accepted by the majority however green they like to think they are!

The media ignored the main thing to come out of this weeks climate talks.India and China said nothing really.Biden and Boris's girlfriend have no control over if an Indian family can have a fridge or not.Rightly so.The media of course ignore per capita, the only number that really matters, that and population demographics.

There is also an idea than net zero means no fossil fuels. It doesnt. The term is net zero, net. In other words natural solutions and carbon capture will compensate for carbon use.Almost everyone is missing this.Thats why by 2050 i think oil use might only be down 10% in value terms, yet gas up 2x to 3x.There will be massive investment in renewables,we knew this would be one of the themes after a bust, but natural solutions will be increasing.Countries will realise they cant hit their targets by cutting fuels. The Tories for instance will lose every red wall seat as soon as they tell people they need to spend £20k on a heat pump that wont work in the north, too cold in winter. That is if there is anyone else to vote for as all parties are socialist at the moment.

For now the cranks are in control of the debate, but soon the real environment organisations will become involved because rightly they will see a chance to help to net zero and be able to re-wild etc. They have a window to talk to big oil etc and get a win win.Our uplands re-planted and out wetlands re-created is far superior to massive subs for turbines that done work half the time.

This natural solutions area needs watching because there will be some big profits.Thats why i prefer Bp in the oilies. It has been investing in a natural solutions carbon business.Really small now,but could become a huge business, and it says to me they see past the hype.

Governments will likely legislate so these type of things become mainstream and before that big companies will sign up anyway. This sort of business could end up being like an annuity.Free cash flowing in yet asset light. The media make demons out of energy companies, yet it will be their capital that can make things like this a success.

Thanks for this.  Got a link?  I can't see it anywhere on the site and got nothing from them direct.

Timing is not the greatest, but a good excuse for me to have a look see if I can find anything of value.

With regards to ETF's is it merely because of using a UK address that stops us buying them.

Thus if i registered with an address outside UK/EU then purchasing them would not be a problem.

My friend has been in her new build for less than a year, and has an air pump. She's had enough and is taking it out already! It can't manage to heat the downstairs and upstairs at the same time! Manufacturer said nothing is wrong with it, and the installation was apparently done properly!! She's had upmpteen people looking at it!

I've said this before on the thread. When ever I go to a training or testing course I get to talk to a large number of heating guys and tutors/ gas safe inspectors.

Heat source pumps always comes up in conversation usually ending the chat with the impression that all the pros think its shit.

Lots of people talking about heat pumps, us in the trade know Hydrogen methane mix is the future.

I did hear from a customer in London that there is some £30K government grant for heat pumps, but I don't know if that's true.

Currently, 700 homes in Gateshead are being trailed with Hydrogen Methane mix. Maybe they already know the heat pumps will not work up North.

DB, as you say the environmental cranks will get squeezed out. Happening already actually, last year Zion Lights (real name!) left Extinction Rebellion (she was senior media spokesperson) to join the guys below. She now is a big advocator of nuclear energy, and for 'science based solutions'.                                                                                  https://environmentalprogress.org/united-kingdom

I had to do a Google search to see what someone called Zion Lights actually looks like .... and like myself, he's clean shaven.

Another middle class waste of space who like most this breed, will never do a productive days work in their entire life, but is happy to fuck things up for those who do.

They won't work down South either. In the Home counties it is perfectly normal to have weeks on end with -5 at night during winter. Temperatures dropped as low as nearly -10 in the Home counties this winter.

pah, im fed up of stupid cunts on the internet or telly or anywhere else talking shite and telling me how its going to be, i guarantee most of them will disappear up their own arseholes once the news cycle moves on, no body knows or cares who they are in the real world, and even fewer will remember them, stupid names or not.
