Half-hour pod casts

Recommended Posts

I spend much of my evenings sitting in my car waiting for my children to finish whatever sports training they are doing. So I'm looking to get off my fat arse and do some exercise instead of munching on chocolate.

I may go swimming some of the time, but I was going to go for a walk whilst the weather is bearable - I'm in Northern Ireland, so don't get much.

Anyhoo, I like the idea of walking for 30 minutes and then turning around and coming back. So the crux of this topic is ideas for pod casts to see me through the walks. Either 30 mins or an hour. Preferably comedy. It's not on now but fighting talk on 5 live would have been ideal.

Any other ideas?

Depends what you mean by podcasts.  I bought the full cd set of old Harry's game. Wonderful comedy. Ripped it to a format for the iPod. Then there is audible where there is a wealth of stuff for a monthly membership fee. Or are you looking for specific suggestions?

I think I mean something i can easily download to my phone without having to copy CDs or such like. I'm thinking there is probably much on radio 4 I should give a go to, but I'm more of a 5live person.

David Mitchell and Doug Stanhope I like so probably should find some of their stuff.

I think you may find that there is no longer any comedy on r4. A lot of virtue signalling dressed up as comedy, but no real belly laugh stuff. They still do some good factual, stuff   Audible might be the way to go if you don't want to bother copying from cd

Listened to it last summer, brilliant. Download here:

Loads more science and entertainment podcast/audio books and links to podcasts from that site.

Dead Ringers - Currently on Friday Night comedy on Radio 4.

R4 has become very virtuous lately, but this is genuinely hilarious. Boris and Dianne Abbott made me almost crash my van I was laughing so hard.

'Fwaaa!'

If I walk up the lane about 300m from here (we live on a hill, one of the highest points in the village) and then climb up the bank I get a stunning view of the entire village. I can even see Guildford in the far distance.

I can simply sit there and take in that view. It's so peaceful. Everything is so near, yet so far away. That sense of perspective is profound.

I think the only language I'm going to need to learn over here is 'Ulster Scots' - whatever the fuck that is.

That looks like a really interesting selection Carl! Any particular recommendations?

And is that really 1926 audio broadcasts from Bill Cooper? How many have you listened to?! Any good?

I enjoy Count Arthur Strong.

Oh, missed that one. Will have a listen to podcasts.

He doesn't get all condescending about the little people does he?  And try and tell us all what to think?
