That looks bloody incredible.

I'd imagine I'd have to remortgage the house to afford a computer to run it though.

Who knows - maybe cloud based computing will become more common in the next few years.

I also hear that the next generation of home consoles represent a much bigger jump in graphics than the last generation did, so lets see what happens, perhaps something close to this will be possible on them.

Ant Attack was awesome for it's time:

Later on, I spent so many nights playing the 1st version of Sim City I had to pretty much give up gaming, or I wouldn't have done much else.

Isn't the MS flight sim going to run on an xbox one? I'm thinking of getting rid of my PS3 (mostly used to play blu rays) and replacing it with an xbox one in the January sales - to play blu rays, and later MS flight sim. It isn't worth waiting for the xbox two is it? Long time away, and it'll be expensive when it comes out.

Something went wrong with my gaming enthusiasm the further I've gotten into my 30's.  Find it hard to stay interested.

FPSs especially.  I used to play hundreds of hours of COD and BF.  I think having less care-free time, thus less practice, makes online games punishing for someone relegating themselves to 'casual' status.  Getting raped by 17 year olds who have clocked 400 hours makes even a quick blast rage inducing.

That said I loved the RE2 remake this year, the RE3 remake looks good too.  That's me down to one game a year now.

Also, the wokeness of games is bothering me.  BFV made my toes curl.

The new X box is out in about a years time and the brief in game footage shown looks pretty impressive:

Online gaming never appealed to me. I appreciate a good single player campaign that doesn't go on for too long (i.e. I don't want to sink 100 hours into 'levelling up' in some endless RPG kind of game)

FPSs on the PC used to by my favorite genre in the mid-late 90's.

Nowadays I don't even think I have the patience for that, I like to log on and game for about 20 mins a night, which is why the second hand Wii U with Mario Kart is perfect for me - very 'pick up and play'. I picked up a handful of critically acclaimed Wii U games for bugger all and I probably have enough games now to last me for the next 10 years given how little time I play in the average week.

I'm the same, I have no interest in the online aspect of gaming. Give me a good single player game like Skyrim and I'm a happy man.

I tried playing Halo online once and it was like sending a toddler over the top. The insult was further compounded by having my parentage, or the genetic variation thereof, questioned by some fat neckbeard in his mothers basement in Texas so from then on, I'm not arsed.

Any recommendations for really good single player games? Unfortunately most seem to be going for the online rubbish and the single player aspects have become dire. Skyrim was the exception to this rule.

One of the channels I'm subbed to on YT plays Rust and streams the sessions, looks like a game I could enjoy. My interest in gaming completely went in the 90's with the side to side fighter variants, for some reason no interest in that style or genre at all.

Farcry 3-5 are all good if you don't mind picking up a gun as opposed to a sword (though you can do a lot with a bow if you wish, especially 3 is very playable as a stealth archer).

GTA5 is very good to - though very different to Skyrim.

The last game I really enjoyed online was TF2, but then I only played on 1 map which was a remake from the original QWTF. Retained the fast 90s style arcade FPS feel rather than going for realism.

DayZ is awesome too - or would be if everyone wasn't such a cunt. Manage to survive 90minutes to the point where you are finally getting some gear and haven't starved to death/bled out/died from a zombie horde? Don't worry some little 13 year old fully geared cunt will 1 shot you before you've even seen him from 1500m. Shame as it has such potential for being very entertaining if people would get past the KoS and interact with each other. Sadly I've put 30hours in since picking it back up after 5 years and not had an interaction with anyone who wasn't a starving freshspawn.

if you enjoy skyrim then, the Witcher 3 is almost always on sale and fantastic with the DLC's.  I really enjoyed dragons dogma.

More bethesda then Fallout 4 is massive and well worth it, just for the base game, nevermind the DLC and all the Mods.  Fallout 3 graphically dated but new vegas is almost a must play game.

Mad Max and the middle of earth games are playable if you can pick them up for a few quid. They’ve probably 50hrs worth of play each.

All of these crop up on Steam sales for £5-£7.

I owned a Farcry (the one that got into trouble for being racist or some such bollocks) and remember it being quite good. I haven't tried the newer ones so might give them a go.

GTA is also on the cards though I've never really been into that sort of genre.

I've got the Witcher and it really was outstanding, even for the voice acting alone. My only (and small) gripe would be the combat and weapons limitations but that's a very small moan in an otherwise superb game.

I've got Fallout 4 and it never really clicked with me, I started getting a bit bored of it to be honest. It's very good but it suffers from that Bethesda endgame curse too where you've finished the game but are now so over-levelled that there is no challenge left to be had. Once you get to the point where you can send a deathclaw airborne with a single, well-aimed shot then game is effectively done.

Will check out Mad Max. The last game based on a movie I bought was the Lord of the Rings one which was really rather good.

Still ploughing through Borderlands. It's good but the bugs, ffs the bugs....

omg - total flashback, I had this game too. Used to play on my Amstrad CPC 664 (with built in floppy drive no less!!)

The game I'm looking forward to playing this weekend is Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. Apparently they've taken 10 years since the last version to make this one because they've been waiting for a number of technologies to reach a critical point. The detail is amazing and is an accurate representation of the real world down to a 3-5cm, just think about that. You can literally fly over your own house (or straight into your neighbours :) !!)

I'm not really a flight sim player, but this just looks stunning and I can't wait to fly over the familiar landscapes I know as well as other places of interest all around the world.

Have they got the 737max upgrade working yet or does it still keep crashing?.

Epic Games are giving away a free game download every day at the moment. Until 4pm today you can get FTL (Faster Than Light) free. It's an absolutely belting game which I highly recommend.

Ohh, I think I'll have that. Cheers.

On gaming - I bought the boy a Nintendo switch a little while ago. Got to admit, the games so far (Mario's Odyssey and Luigis Mansion 3) are absolutely outstanding. I'd have given my left nut for one of those when I was a kid.

Found 7 Days to Die over Christmas, its technically in Alpha but has been early access since 2013 (!), rumoured to go Gold 2020. But its £6 and pretty stable so don't let the Alpha put you off :)

Think zombie survival open world minecraft. You get dropped in to the world naked and have to scavenge and craft your way through to survive. There is a basic tutorial but other than that you are on your own. Every 7 days you face a roving horde that will get harder every time... I'm sure Youtube can explain much better than I :P

I will say though if anyone does take a look, for your first play through change the days to 90 or 120minutes. My first play though attempt was frustrating as night was on me so quickly every time (and several days were spent retrieving my backpack and nothing more as I kept losing to a freaking huge wolf), without gear you won't be able to survive in the open at night. By day 7 I was still struggling with hunger and hadn't even started on prep for the night as so much of my time went in to figuring things out.

Yeah the reason I bought the Wii U was that I think Nintendo have been making games that are enjoyable to play for decades, and making the games accessible and enjoyable to play is still their top priority. Brought it home over Christmas and my brother loved Mario Kart so much he's thinking of getting one himself.

The Wii U will keep me busy for years I think, but I'll probably pick up a Switch in 5 years when they're cheap.

I gotta say that as someone who has been 'semi' out of gaming for a while, the RE2 Remake was really a shock to the system as far as how far games have come as far as trying to become 'interactive' movies.  Real time photorealism, met with a Hollywood-tier director, with 7.1 sound, organic lighting... with viewer control.

In 4K too.

Are there any DOSBODers playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare? I have not played a COD game for years, aside from the rebooted war one a few years ago (which I only played for a week or so). But this one's rather good. If anyone does by any chance play on PSN we could start a DOSBODS clan. :D

It'd be nice to replace my current clan tag (BREXT). A few people have invited me to play, who also have the same or similar clan tag, but it's quite rare.

Elite Dangerous has been chewing up my time, I remember the original Elite on my commodore 64 / mates spectrum (and playing it at lunchtime on the school BBC micro).

Just bought Metro Exodus (hateful Epic games launcher) for £15 including the DLC, I've played the previous Metro games and enjoyed the storyline.  Exodus is pretty damn good.

Anything that the free RPG / other online gaming platforms offer that is worth a group of Dosbodders logging on to? Something with no block to usage would maximise numbers and could be quite fun.

PS5 Might be announced this year.

Also:

I think gaming usage goes up during a recession because people stay in doors more.

For Christmas 30 years ago I got this game:

I was hooked on it well into the new year.

In 1989 most micro-computer-ists were moving to 16 bit computers but I was I was poor.

I had that on my sega megadrive. Bloody brilliant game and the one where I discovered the meaning of 'rage quitting'. Brutally difficult, it made Dark Souls look like Pac Man.
