same mileage and slightly cheaper

Didn't he have all his cars painted white except for one painted black ?

" Head of the snake " as Evans put it. Whatever that means.

so the R32 shoots up in value whilst the traditional classics languish

Don't really understand the appeal.

When VED increased on the manual to £500 you couldn't give them away.

DSG was £305 in comparison.

  • 2 weeks later...

Maybe some good classic will be sold off now as a result. I can forsee decent well done projects being flogged off to support the morgage repayments.

Lots of ''appreciating modern classics'' that I've been keeping an eye on ebay etc that have been sat for 6 months or more at stupid prices are being relisted... still at the same stupid prices.

No sign of a fire sale just yet from what I can see... and if people can hold on to them long enough to see this out then I can only see the insane prices going even more insane thanks to the latest money printing and ZIRPing... and buyers possibly adopting even more of an ''oh well YOLO'' attitude after emerging alive from the Great Pandemic.

It's the old 'I bought 2 years ago so add 20% x2 like you get in housing' which works until the sell off. These sorts of things are going to get mullered as they're pretty peripheral to feeding the kids,I'd imagine the end of the market frequented by rich old blokes with mortgages paid off /inflation proof pension will hold up better. Are there any auctions you can follow these things.Good lead indicator perhaps.

Not really any specific auctions for more the kind of cars I'm talking about... the more attainable ''modern classics'' from the 80's 90's and early 00's Jap Rally reps and hot hatches.

I think it all depends how long this goes on for, if everything is getting back to normal in 3 months time then prices will be up, up and away thanks to all the printin' and zirpin'... but if the lockdown and restricted economic activity continues for considerably longer then there might be some forced sellers.

I have to get a valuation on my Lancia for the insurance company at renewal time.

The guy who values it deals in them and suggests what he would pay for it.

This year's valuation is the same as last year's, previously it had increased every year. Mind you, it would have to fall a long way for me to be making a loss on it.

Sign of the times?

Not for sale btw 😊

When I first spotted this at £6k I thought it might be a good bit of fun for about £8k... but bids now currently standing at £20k and counting!!

Assuming there's no shill bidding scammery going on and these are genuine bids from genuine buyers it doesn't bode well for anything calming down in the classic/performance/interesting car bubble anytime soon.

What a pile of shit. You can get a nice el camino for less than 10k USD. Fuck that.

Jesus wept. In my home county too where property is also overpriced. I wouldn't have thought that the buyer paid £92.5k for it though but maybe not too much lower.

There were £20k annual insurance premiums on those Cosworths in the 1990s.

I bought the latest fiesta st3 a month ago for 20k and leaves the rs escort for dust on track and on road. Nuff said. People are nuts
