Windows10 is broke again

Recommended Posts

When it autodated my laptop and restarted the screen just went blank for several minutes - black - I had no indication whether my laptop was working or not. I find his simply unacceptabe. It scares the heck out of me. It must be doing the same for hundreds of millions of people.

It is just shite.

apparently the latest update has resutled in certain usb devices no longer being recognised. including my gps watch.

Well, that's progress.

Most irritating issue for me is that it resets my desktop icons to the default settings. I carefully arranged them into groups to suit my usage. I can't be arsed to rearrange them for the fourth or fifth time.

It reconfigured my keyboard after i set the caps lock to be blank.

Also have to reset again the time delay when you hover over a new window before it focuses.

Annoying, but on the whole been pretty impressed by it. Lost of worse things to complain about.

After the update before last my touchpad became almost unusable, refusing to recognize clicks (YogA 510). Updated the driver and all was fine. Last Windows 10 update has screwed the click again.

I'll be on 7 until there is a win10 "must-have" feature - of which no sign, as yet.

I find windows Hello pretty nifty.

I hate planned obsolescence of stuff thats perfectly functional and I like using. Going from XP to 8 cost me an A3 printer and decent scanner. Going from 8 to 10 may cost me an expensive mapping package and gps software. So I'm a bit of a luddite with regard to tech.

Windows has turned to rat shit.

I sacked my laptop when windows 7 was no longer supported, and bought this.

I've since upgraded the RAM to 32GB.

It's been around ten years since I used a Mac, but I'm loving the difference and the stability of the OSX system.

Its not planned obsolescence. Its MS fucking stuff up, time + time again. At the core of it, the Windows code must be a fucking mess. And Id guess they just dont have much in the way of competent people towork on it now.

Its been a mess forever and it just seems to get worse with each release

I doubt anyone at MS understands the Tower of Babel in code that underpins it

Add is the ever cryptic or ambiguous error messages and it is a nightmare to to maintain.

I've used MacBooks for years now - they just work. My daughter has a Windows 10 PC it's a piece of shit, always doing fricking updates which seem to render the thing inoperable for several hours. I'm going to stump up for a Macbook for her when she starts college.

Woke up this morning to find loads of stuff not working properly.

Next PVR deciding that it doesn't have the codecs it needs anymore

shares on my NAS not all working on some machines (no noticeable pattern)

USB pen not working

It also looks as though Windows 10 has removed the ability to roll back updates.

It's as if someone at Microsoft has said "how can we get a sizeable proportion of our customer base to switch to Linux and trash our share price?"

As I under it this is in part due to third parties not having updated their drivers for the new Windows release. Certain Intel Atom laptops and netbooks are particularly impacted. So as much hardware suppliers making  their stuff obsolete and forcing upgrades as MS fault. I understand MS will still release security updates for the atom machines so that is one way to have a Windows 10 system without the problem of huge downloads.

Microsoft are losing the plot in a big way, as they can't decide whether it's a business platform, games machine or a phone.:CryBaby:. And they want a subscription model, which is cloud based, and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't stick confidential stuff in a cloud.

What fuks me us theres no way to enumerate whats on a windows box and check for versions.

Theres some stuff you can do in powershell but that requires vendor stick to a standard. Ive had MS modiles change but keep same versions.

I think ms peaked with wibdows 2k. It was gear comoared to its competitors. And affordable -  my kicense was £50.

The ms server os are still ok. Again, they peaked with ws2008r2.

But, a server license is about £600.

Then we come to my pet peeves.

The ms tcpip stack is shit.

Theres still large security holesin the os.

It doesnt have zfs.
