China’s economy shrinks for first time in four decades

First-quarter GDP falls 6.8% year on year in wake of coronavirus pandemic

Now China has been telling huge porkies about their economy for at least 10 years.

So youve got to wonder what the real state is. Id guess they are using he virus to publish real figures.

Get your production out of China before the social unrest kicks of major time.

A serious question, has there ever been any meaningful social unrest in China? IIRC the last time it happened the guy was run over by a tank.

The Hong Kong situation for the last 6-8 months? I guess technically that territory is a special jurisdiction.

Boxer rebellion against Christians in 1899ish killed over 100k,it was really caused by a bad drought that meant a lot of the farmers were starving.

Watch where the money goes, just like all authoritarian regimes of the past those at the top of the not so Communist Party of China will have been off-shoring cash, bullion, valuables just in case. There will be a Plan B, and Plan C and even possibly a Plan D in the biggest confidence trick in history.

CCP is the people. The people are the CCP.

A chicken in every pot n rice in every bowl.

The CCP beat down any protest, to stop them spreading.

Since 2000, growing economy n wage growth has kept a lid on major shut.

Now theres the fallout as people get poorer, their kids get banned from foreign Unis, the population age and find that th property I vestment pension in Oz  London, Manchester, Liverpool, is worthless.

What is CCP going to do? That money was smuggled out.

The thing with China is their population compared to Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore etc is a full eight years shorter with men in particular only making it to 74.

Discontent grows with working age, if you are still flogging your guts when you are over 50 then you are going to be of that peculiar age when you no longer believe what you are told and start being vocal about it.

China has now got a lot of young people with non-China experience and they are probably quietly simmering away as well.

Boiling frogs.

a 2011 paper but well worth a flick through

Lot of unrest in CHina goes unreproted I think

https://www.chathamhouse.org/sites/default/files/public/Research/Asia/1012ecran_gobelong.pdf

According to official statistics, in 2011 the Chinese government spent more on internal security (USD 111 billion [EUR 90 billion]) than on national defence (USD 106 billion [EUR 86 billion]). The costs of the `harmonious society’, as current President Hu Jintao has called it, are high.

In contrast with thread title, the IMF have given to go-ahead for the yen to be included in the "IMF foreign currency basket". This will put the yen on a par with the dollar and is predicted to trigger a transfer of wealth not seen for decades. Anyone with an understanding of global markets care to comment? Ignore the platform, read the article and keep an open mind https://themuslimtimes.info/2020/04/05/the-imf-officially-green-lighted-the-acceptance-of-chinas-currency-the-yuan/
