I've just noticed the Jaipur tin with the earliest best before date is on the bottom row, middle column, nearest the back. Schoolboy error to not put them in by date order.

You should worry. All my bottles of Stella seem to have a best before date of 1366.

don't know about pubs, but I expect there to be a huge uptick in illegal raves this summer, I'd go to one myself if I wasn't too old. If a few pop up country pubs open, I won't tell if you don't?

Covid19 and life to go

I can't seem to keep my stash intact......

The idea is to leave a little room for a bag of carrots in your trolley full of 'essentials' on your daily shopping trip.

There are quite a few possibilities on this. People might just start arranging pop up pubs in various outdoor places over summer, causing litter, noise, and various other nuisances...the pressure might grow to open pubs just to give them somewhere to go. Loads of people on craft beer forums have talked about the huge stashes they are building up..

A more controlled opening could see people asked to nominate one pub to visit, hopefully their local. This would limit socialising across and between different groups. Maybe even closing toilets in pubs to make people choose their local...

Another way would be to say over-60s only before 4pm. Under-60s only after 5pm with an enforced hour for cleaning.

I'm preparing for option one :)

Are you Mr Chi City?  (around 1 minute in), video advice also applicable to the Deluded scrappers thread.

Wouldn't be at all surprised.

I've been quite sanguine about lockdown. I have a stack of decent books in I was always getting around to reading, same with a few movies, tried some new recipes and pottered about a bit etc. I've been hitting the ale about lunch time quite a few days. Cannot get any bloody weed mind.

Before this my life didn't revolve around being at home most of the time - I'm not a suburbanite and don't do the "9-5" go home and put the telly on type thing.

If I was twenty years younger I think I would be howling at the moon by now.

People are getting restless. It's palpable imo.

I’m Not sure Spoons can operate with social distancing. Could you imagine it! Clear the bar or only 3 ppl at the bar? I suppose table service could work - 5 mates each on separate tables ?

Wight Flight

There was a pub landlord on the radio earlier. Saying that having space for only a third of his usual clients was fine, so long as he could pay a third of his rent, electric, insurance etc.

In his view, there was no point in opening on that basis. I think he is probably right.

and there's the rub. Prepare for commercial (and subsequently personal) land to reduce to a third of it's original price.

That goes with everything I suppose; wages, fuel, etc. The great reset....

It's always the rent and the rates that are listed as can't afford when most pubs have around 60-70% of their overhead as wages despite paying close to min wage.

Of course rent and rates are the ones that look like they can be dealt with on a this proportion or nothing basis. But if you need overheads down 50% or more, it's never gonna add up unless gov steps in with helicopter money.

Of course getting rid of alcohol duty for booze sold in pubs may do it. Could also bring back the system where people took their own jug not least because prices were better than the supermarket. That's happening already at some rural pubs [except the price bit I'm guessing].

Dealers aren't the most reliable at the best of times. A few of my friends in the UK only order through the dark web these days, delivery by post. There are plenty of guides on how to do it.

Try growing your own. There's a British guy in Spain that manufacturers low energy grow lights, using top quality LED bulbs: https://plantphotonics.com/general-led-information/

His smallest ones are more than enough for one plant: https://plantphotonics.com/product/energy-amethyst-ds-50/

edit: cannabis seeds are, oddly enough, legal to buy and sell in the UK. Hundreds of suppliers online.

Cheers! Funnily enough some of my lock down time has been dedicated to this very matter :)

They're beautifully made. The only bit of electronics that I've ever held, and thought "these will outlast me".

Pop up pubs appearing everywhere now, random blokes with a crate of lout in random out of the way places. I think this weekend will see it really take off 20C+ everywhere.

My guess is as Lockdown is relaxed, more and more people will start to realise it's mostly a crock of sh*te and that there's no significant increase in deaths and it will become more and more difficult to justify pub closures. I'm pretty sure they will be the last businesses to open though.

Drunk people in A & E being potential super-spreaders is not ideal right now.

I suspect we could see limited opening hours, such as those introduced under the Defence of the Realm Act 1914.

IIRC there were also restrictions during the visitation of 1665, I think they had to close by 9pm.

It would be better than nothing, anyway.

Yep.  I re-watched "Filthy Rich and Catflap" the other day and realised how "sterile" so much comedy is these days compared with the raw energy of stuff like that.
