MrPin's ultimate CAR THREAD

Recommended Posts

I'm fed up with camshaft nob-jockery, but I do like a nice car, including ones that Frank's head pokes out of the top, or Mr Option has to have steps to reach up to. The challenge here is to show the used oil sump washer, and you guess, which model and year it is and are the wheels original.O.o

Judging by the wheels and how it sits this is 1960 is design based on 1950s running gear.

A wild guess, is it a Fairthorpe?

Nope

Well, it is a Saab Sonett.  Not sure of the year, but it looks like a mk II.

But is this a trick question?  The older Saabs (inc Sonett) had two-stroke engines and I'm not sure that they had a sump to plug.

The wheels look original, though.

1966, good spot. Yes 2 stroke but also available with the Ford 1500  V4 from the Taunus.

Good spot indeed.

My old Saab guy had two of these, in different states of undress. Not sure whether he ever got at least one of them back on the road. He had a bump on the head, went a bit strange, rang me out of the blue one day and then promptly disappeared. Probably for the best, as I was about to throw a tonne of money at him to spruce up my 9000 Turbo.

I like two-stroke engines, as you never have to throw dirty oil away, as Gaia has eaten it.o.O

Dirty fuckers though (two-strokes, not you). I used to love the splash and shake at the local petrol station with my motorbike.

If you know your stuff you will know what this is and as a precaution I have smudged the number plate to stop cheating.

Clue, you can still buy one, but they fiddled with the name (1 letter).

Here is another great car that failed, similar performance to a Corvette, American V8 engine and no door handles.

Clue, look at the front bumper.

KITT?

Spot on, you could even ruin it by putting the god awful VW Beetle engine in one.

Presumably rear-engined? In which case, why so much bonnet?

Wrong,

6 Litre V8 with 3 speed auto or the rare 4 speed Borg Warner manual.
