Prime Minister's Statement: Opposition Response

Recommended Posts

Lots of noise yesterday about the BBC broadcasting Starmer's response to the PM's statement on Sunday. Many people saying it's blatant pro Labour bias on the BBC's part as the PM was speaking as PM, and not as leader of the Conservatives. Others saying it's normal for the opposition to get airtime to respond to such prime ministerial statements.

Trouble for me is, I can't remember the last times a PM made a statement to the nation like this, so I can't remember what to check back on.

Can anyone help?

Their news captions have a red background, even the digital clock, a subliminal "It's time for Labour"? Even the settee is red on Breakfast.

I'm certain that I remember news colouring going from blue to red in the late 90s once Blair got in.

No-one else seems to remember though so I don't know if my mind's made it up or not. Anyone else remember?

Has anyone come up with a previous example of an opposition response to a Prime Minister's statement? Falklands war, 911 (did Blair make a satement?), anything else?
