Redundancies announced at work this morning...

Recommended Posts

Previously would they have offered better redundancy terms - have they amended due to the present cluster fuck of a situation ?

No.

None union site, and statutory terms have been the case from the day it opened.

I have left twice and later gone back - had I not done so I would've had 22 years of continuous service instead of 10.

Do you mean 1/8? If it's 8/1 then that's pretty shitty... :CryBaby:

For every nine of us, one will be gone by the end of June.

No amount of fuckwit pedantry will change that...

Comiserations.

But it has to be a unit of redundancy - An area of work that is redundant

Are there 5 people that make a unit?  They can't just cherry pick indivduals unles they volunteer.

What's your gut feeling? Do you get on with management?

We will find out over the coming weeks, and I know the rules and will do my best to make sure they adhere to them.

Emergency Employee Council meeting called at 8.30am today, and an official announcement to all affected employees by their respective managers at 9am.

Directly affecting me and the rest of the engineering department of forty-five people are five positions that will be made redundant within thirty days.

Fifty-nine across the plant as a whole.

Details are sketchy at the moment, and those seeking voluntary redundancy have a week to request it in writing - after which time more information should start filtering down.

Statutory redundancy packages only, so I will get around £8500 if I get the chop.

8/1 chance that I'm out of the door by the end of June - so please forgive me if the whisky is flowing, and I inadvertently upset any fucker tonight. Apologies in advance - given the current world-wide situation, there are extenuating circumstances...

:(

What’s the point of asking for volunteers if they are only offering Statutory Redundancy.

I don't get on with them at all.

But on the plus side I have unique skills and product knowledge that no-one else has.

And a lot of it is in my head and not documented.

But if they want rid, they usually get away with it...

My wife had a similar thing at her work yesterday. Cutting 6 from about 36. Best of luck to you.

They have to is the simple answer.

Folk close to retirement with long service might be tempted - but the caveat that if you are identified as key staff, then you will be refused it is already written in the official statement.

All they have to do is draw up a set of criteria to measure people against and provided the list doesn't break equal opportunity laws that is enough.
