If you see a picture of Britt Ekland now (Please someone post one, this is on my phone) then you might expect an idiot.

I've been watching "The Real Marigold Hotel", she's actually charming, manages an impression of at least moderate intelligence and articulacy, definitely some self-awareness.

I feel chastened for my arrogant prejudices.  Fun old lady and boy I bet she was fun when young. :x

You do realise that it would have been scripted, with the script written by a script writer?  o.O

Of course. But still, my point stands. Watch it for yourself if you don't believe me. She has charm and pizzazz under that ridiculous exterior, and admits all the surgery was a failure. The grumpy old scrote Duncan Bannantyne is visibly just as surprised as me to find her charming.

Too much plastic surgery over the years has made her look a caricature of her younger self. This is a complimentary photo. In the clip I saw of her in the TV programme she didn't look as good as she does in this pic.2017358567__methode_times_prod_web_bin_8f5afc6a-95dc-11ea-97b5-8f15973668de1.jpg.0e5c52896b29b9175f76f1e694daf702.jpg

Feck me. Looks like she is going home. All she needs is a blanket over her head and to be sat in a bike basket. o.O

As if I’m going to trust Bannantyne’s opinion on anything. o.O

There's a lovely story about how she and Peter Sellers got together.

Peter Sellers was a loon and used to visit spiritualists for readings.

One that he visited was bribed to say that someone with the initials BE would be very important to him in the near future.

The bribe was designed to make him accept the offer to work with Blake Edwards on The Pink Panther.

By pure coincidence Britt Ekland was featured in the newspaper as an up and coming Swedish actress in London.  Sellers thought the BE was referring to her and pursued and married her.

Funny old world.

He - Peter Sellers - fell in love with Jean Simmons and approached her husband, Stewart Granger, to explain that he and Jean were to be lovers and married, but that he did not wish to lose his friendship with Granger. This came as quite a surprise to both Stewart and Jean who knew nothing about the plans that Sellers had made.

I bet she knew Sellers fancied her though - women would be idiots not to realise when a man fancies them. Oh, hang on.

I always thought that sellers was beyond creepy. Maybe that’s just me though.

He had no shortage of women queuing up to be captivated by his comic genius. But he did also make serious money back in the 50's and 60's. A man who can make a woman laugh and who is super wealthy.

Shortly after he married Ekland he wrote a letter to her:

Quote

eter Sellers was tormented by fears he would lose his beautiful bride Britt Ekland within a month of their whirlwind marriage.

A previously unseen letter shows how the comic genius was besotted with the future Bond Girl - and terrified that she would dump him.

The Pink Panther star, who died in 1980 aged 54, poured out his heart when he wrote to his new bride while she was away filming.

He began typing the letter at home alone in California at 2.25am on March 15, 1964, three weeks after they wed.

Sellers, who was 39 when he proposed to the 22-year-old actress, wrote: "I have a dreadful fear that you might leave me. I love you so desperately, and think you are so absolutely wonderful in every way, that I find it very difficult to understand why you married me.

"You who are just the most lovely thing in the whole world. What do you see in me? I'm not handsome. I'm not tall. I'm not special in any way."

Sellers admitted feeling "wretched and awful" when he imagined other actors wanting to sleep with her.

He wrote: "Without any doubt I am a raving idiot and I ought to have my head examined." He said he had just been watching a film starring Brigitte Bardot - and she reminded him of her.

He added: "She was acting with a very handsome French actor and climbing in and out of bed with him throughout the movie.

"Suddenly it was no longer Miss Bardot, it was you! He was making love to my own Britt.

"And what's worse, she didn't mind. Even liked it. I was going through agony. Stupid of me to think like this... My darling would never think of doing such a thing. Now stop it, Sellers. You are going crazy."

Britt was away from LA filming Guns at Batasi with John Leyton. The pair had kissed at a previous screen test. Sellers wrote: "I thought John Leyton? He's in the film that my Britt's doing. He's the one she did that test with.

"She kissed him. Oh but that's just acting.

"Then I thought of something an actor once said to me - that he always had to become involved with the woman he worked with otherwise it didn't look real. The thought of this made me break out into a cold sweat and want to be sick."

He added: "You are very sexy. Very. I will get you in a super bikini next week. I bet you will look very dishy in it.

"You are a very very dishy bird.

"I want to make love to you again so much... I could make violent love to you all night."

He signed the letter "all my love, always, Peter" and added 25 hand-drawn kisses. He was still writing at 4am, when Ekland returned to their Beverly Hills home.

Sellers wed Britt on February 19, 1964. They had a daughter Victoria and starred together in two films before divorcing after four years.

The letter was among memorabilia sold by Britt 15 years ago. It was bought by a private collector and is expected to fetch £3,000 at auction in Devises, Wilts, on August 15.

Auctioneer Andrew Aldridge said yesterday: "It's a fascinating snapshot into the mind of a flawed genius.

"It shows how insecure he was and how he quickly let his jealous imagination run away with him."

How is your strapon research coming along Ms. Vanilla?

You still going for the Union Jack hand-crafted harness and rainbow latex dildo? Whilst every one else is clapping you can be doing something else for the NHS on Thursdays at 8PM. :o

Prompted by a post by XYY on his arse thread in which he makes an implicit criticism of the kind of physical vanity that gym-goers and health freaks have, worried about their appearance, wanting to look like muscled porn stars or whatever.
Now it isn't that I disagree, I don't really, it is weakness of a sort, but it's my observation that there are very few people who don't have any personal vanity of one form or another, and that physical vanity is one of the more harmless manifestations of this. There are old biddies and blokes in nursing homes who still try incredibly hard to look their best, this seems harmless to me, I daresay when they were younger they were the equivalent of the gym bunnies.
So, Dosbodders - what's your vanity?
Reckon you're different? But are you really?
      Reckon you're smart? How smart?
Reckon you're an Adonis/Aphrodite? Really? at your age?
Reckon you've got all the patter/wit?
Reckon you've an unbreakable code of conduct/honour?
Reckon you were sent by God to save the world but actually you're a demon who can't help poisoning everything he touches? (Yes I'm looking at you, Tony)
Etc etc, you get the picture...... Most people seem to struggle to get through their days without looking down at someone else and imagining that they're much better.

I'll start the thread off by saying that my earlier-life vanity about appearance (unjustified!), which I definitely had, has faded away. Now I reckon I know too much about people, but of course, I don't really, it's an illusion as much as any other vanity.

So, Dosbodders, what's your vanity? And especially for our older chaps like @Byron and @Virgil Caine, are your vanities fading away, or just being replaced with different ones?

Just in case India and Pakistan do kick things off heralding the end of the world and forcing DOSBODers to turn to their baked bean stash, we may as well have a thread about the brotherly love between India and Pakistan.
When they no longer had the British to hate they appear to have realised that they hate one another.

It looks like turmeric - which has been used for centuries as supposedly being a means of losing mucus from the airways.
There was obviously more than 3.5kg of sardines.
