Just pay GP’s per consultation, not for every person on their register - most who rarely go to the doctors.

That's how dentists work, er well I believe so, if anyone knows different.

I haven't a clue, and their website does not appear to tell me.

I just looked on the doctors website that sits across the corridor from mine and they don't either mention patient numbers. They are available online somewhere in a big spreadsheet I think.

I have just been on the NHS website and you can find out.

Our GPs have 6443 patients on the books.

Their website says thare are 5 GPs, although I suspect that there is some part-time working.

So, back to the original point, that particular GPs surgery looks a little short of GPs.

I have only used our surgery once, but Mrs B has been a few times and she says that as long as you don't want to see a specific quack you can get an appointment really easily. Might have to wait a few days, but if you are badly they will see you the same day.

We're apparently back to pre-covid no chance of an appointment ever. I don't know who gets the appointments but the many people who joined a Facebook group to complain about it certainly aren't.

I did ask for a telephone appt a few years ago to ask for referral to surgery for my elbow and they were happy with that and it wasted a lot less of all our time.

I was on the patient consultation group for a while..  I spent a week trying to get an appointment only to be constantly told to try again the next afternoon and then the next day.  In the end I asked to speak to Richard who was the practice manager and instantly I was offered an appointment. I did speak to Richard though rather than just gleefully rung off cackling at having got an appointment. He reckoned it was lots of old people taking up appointments.

Well that's easily dealt with: no OAP can book appointments, instead they have to come and sit in the waiting room for a slot with the GP. That way they all get a bit of company (which is what most of them want) and hopefully they'd not all catch whatever bugs were whilst waiting for a never going to happen appointment.
They used to do that at the Ardwick surgery I was registered at and the Canal Street one. If you're sick you'll sit and wait to see a doctor, if you're not then you'll get bored and go home. Doesn't work for people in gainful employment though who need to see a GP.
He put a limited number of appointments online for the working people but the OAPs grabbed all of them too.
