Beautiful there if you have a means of supporting yourself living out of the way like that. You could probably stick a cabin in the garden to stay in and rent the house out for a fortune in summer hols.

Chilly winters though - and I'd want to know if the gardens flood, maybe even the house too.

Had a winter break in Swaledale/Ribble valley, was stunning. Lucked out on the weather mind.

So with reference to my post on the other thread, with 350k to spend can you guys find me anywhere in the UK with 1/2 acre, 4 beds, detached, close to some sort of civilization/schools where id want to live? Surely its not that hard?

One route would maybe find a iffy 2 bedder at 250k, ideally just under for useful stamp duty threshold savings and then £100k for refurb and extension. Would probably mean 1 downstairs bedroom and of course all the hassle of the refurb and probably no go if need use of all 4 bedroom from the get go.

Doesn’t fit with my current life but I’ve had some great times round there. Great walking, fishing, beer and cheery locals, they don’t seem to feel the same need to tell you they’re from Yorkshire when you’re there which is a plus.

It's the closest thing to me I could find that fitted Mr Devil's brief.  It's a lovely part of the country, I'm almost tempted by it myself.

Lovely down there. Bit Royston Vasey, but beautiful.

We went to Branscombe beach one day whilst we were down that way. Tiny lanes, hedges bursting either side.

Very nice, and it was a water mill so can be set up to generate a lot of electricity.

T C Lethbridge lived up at the big house above (now a holiday let) and he knew the lady who lived here and wrote about her a little bit in one of his books. :)
That's how I discovered the place originally - reading a book and being nosey about where the author lived.

This is almost next door to Pa's cottage where we have stayed on our holidays some time ago. Absolutely lovely place.

Great for a couple of weeks holiday in high summer but that stretch of the coast is seriously bleak most of the year.

I also think they are taking a liberty in describing that as Bude, it's a long way from Bude!

In country miles it's not far...

Yes, lovely walks in summer, but that headland is a bit blustery even on a nice day.

I wouldn't say ideal but this one for £2m (and it's art deco @UmBongo )  is very unusual.  It's on its own mini hilltop by the sea, with its own helipad.

But when you look at it from google earth you can see its surrounded by, but higher than, oil storage tanks, industrial units and all one on its rocky hill top (created by previous quarrying behind it by the looks of it).

It's a really odd one, it's either great or terrible and I'm not sure which.  And its very strange to be in the middle of a city but with no neighbours.  And with a helipad and hanger.

For those of you that have the means, there is this.....

I can't tell you what this area is like now, but 25-30 years ago it was lovely.

If you timed it right you could be in central London in 90 minutes by car (at the weekend at least), yet the villages were pretty and quiet, with cricket clubs, unlocked doors etc. Pikies were around but few, and controlled. I suspect it's not quite as good now but still nice.

This is massive.
And a good advert for why you shouldn't use emoov as your estate agent.

Highly patterned carpets...

i think your offering is too big. Imagine the heating costs.

Yes I think so too... I think we're happy to have lots of out buildings in lieu of rooms.
