Meanwhile Ireland cases per million - 20% higher than the UK. But I'm sure the decision is scientific rather than political.

As we are provisionally going for a hard Brexit I think we should hand their ass back to them on a plate.

Cut off from their troughing EU buddies, funding the Club Med covidders at the behest of the Hun. A damp cultural desert (save for the crack) with the threat of Merkels millions descending on an "English" speaking enclave.

Time to rebuild that border twice as high - for many reasons.

It seems a fairly reasonable stance given the level of the virus in the UK.

But it won't be great for their economy. Without the UK and the US they effectively don't have much of tourist industry.

Obviously global travel will reduce massively so the following numbers are likely to reduce regardless, but UK - Ireland travel was going to be the least likely to be dented, the other factor of course given the distance and ease is the UK travellers were the most likely to make up shorter trips and so any of those won't be worth while with a quarantine.
