I have a vague recollection that some years ago virgin had some sort of 'adult' setting that you had to opt in or out of. They may be using this to censor various sites?

My wife had to ring one of our internet providers to tell them to turn off some over reaching "adult filter". That might have been Virgin.

She was trying to look at reviews of military style belts (a present for her brother). She stumbled upon some links to belt reviews on a blocked American military/survivalist site, and was outraged that they wouldn't let her look at stuff about belts on the internet.

When I moved to TalkTalk it had an "adult filter" on as default.

The only problem was that you couldn't take it off.  I looked on their help forum and there were multiple threads on this where people had tried everything the helpdesks had suggested to make turning off the adult filter in settings actually take effect: clear cache, router off, computer off.  The usual suspects.

Nothing worked because the problem was at their end though they wouldn't admit that; nobody had been successful in turning this off.

A few highly-productive months later they quietly fixed it without telling anybody.

Didn't Cameron have an idea for a family-friendly "Internet filter" to be on as standard? I can't recall whether he wanted to allow a means of disabling it?

I thought that was Treason May as Home Secretary but Cameron was involved.

One aspect of that was requiring porn sites to necessitate people signing up and demonstrating that they were 18 with either their credit / debit card or an ID card bought from the Post Office.

I don't think it has gone away but I suspect it has been a deliberately low priority during lockdown ;)

Thanks all, I will give them a call and demand to be able to watch plandemic.

Major social networks are rushing to take down a new coronavirus conspiracy theory video which has rapidly spread across the internet.
The so-called "Plandemic" video is edited in the style of a documentary, with much higher production standards than many conspiracy videos.
The video is filled with medical misinformation about where the virus came from and how it is transmitted.
Despite efforts to remove it, users are constantly re-uploading the clip.
Since the 26-minute video first appeared earlier this week, it has exploded across YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and other websites, prompting an attempt to remove it.
Among its claims are that the virus must have been released from a laboratory environment and could not possibly be naturally-occurring; that using masks and gloves actually makes people more sick; and that closing beaches is "insanity" because of "healing microbes" in the water.
Such claims are not supported by reliable medical and scientific advice.
The video also suggests that the number of deaths is being deliberately falsified, in order to exert control over the population.

Just watched it (Via VPN).

Nothing amazing in it and a lot of the usual stretching of the truth.

But one thing they mentioned is it's the bare faced lies coming out of the MSM that are causing the fabric of society to be shredded.

One side knows they are full of shit and the other believe, or pretend to believe it to further their own agenda.

So now I know why I hate the BBC. Not because they are manipulative bare faced liars, but because of their lies they are destroying the country. Forcing people to take sides and fight each other.

Their censorship isn't about protecting people its goal is to have us at each others throats.

Was that under Dido's watch?

I get this feeling with my work. I think everyone realises this virus is probably not that bad but we all pretend its the plague so we can continue to wfh. This goes right to the top. I think all the senior managers never want to work in the office again either. This is public sector.

That policy was quietly dropped a while back.

Yes it was Treason May fiddling with stuff to please a few opinionated pressure groups when she was meant to be not completely fucking up Brexit.

It seemed to be dropped when it suddenly became clear that every terrorist MI6 was quietly tracing was about to jump behind a VPN to avoid the pron block.

Trying to help people even begin to scratch the surface is hard - although have managed a little bit of chat about Matt Le Tissier's sacking and BLM - his tweets about BLM movement being anti capitalist (and crucially, anti family/smash patriarchy), have been helpful to me, if career limiting to him.

Have not yet watched Plandemic.

Oldie but goodie re the manipulation.
