AirBus?

SAP??

Something German???

Something financial????

Nope.

Prosus.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prosus

How did it get there?

Years of diligent work?

Nope.

Stumbled on TenCent and bought 30% of the equity in 2001 for ~ $30m.

Compare n contrast:

2008 was when JPs wheels fell off.

back in ~2004 JP market cap must have been around ~1bln.

In 2008, the publisher of the Scotsman and the Yorkshire Post was earning pre-tax profits of close to £130m on turnover of £600m. Its market capitalisation was £500m. Today, it is turning over £270m, struggling to make a profit and its market value is sub-£50m.

Prosus (market cap $149bn) appears to be smaller than Nestle ($328bn), Roche ($300bn), Louis Vuitton ($220bn), L'Oreal ($179bn) etc:

I haven't even heard of any of the subsidiaries.

I would have gone for BASF, but they're a paltry 55.7bn

Blimey, just looked at 10Cent, never heard of them either - 7th biggest company in the world by market cap, biggest company in China. someone bunging 10k in in 2012 would now be a millionaire.
