Video Entry System advice

Recommended Posts

Just wondered if anyone had any experience and recommendations. We had an old remote entry system but it was showing its age to say the least and with replacement of the door looked into replacement with like for like. This would have been OK but recommended wiring is now CAT5 which it did not have and installation of CAT5 would be enough for video entry system. So I priced it with my usual electrician who is usually very competitive but he wanted to bring in someone else with expertise and as a result the price is ridiculous for an installation which I can do myself. Having it signed off is no problem as my brother in law will do so but is too far away to do the job and would not want the hassle as he is retired.

I wondered whether anyone had any recommendation for the system to buy. The mechanism and wiring is already in the door as we had the foresight to request this so it is just pwer supply, entry camera and entry unit and monitor and remote door release button.

What is the purpose of the entry system (multiple flats?  Older person who can't get to the door?)

What is wrong with the old system (doesn't work?  worn out and can't fit replacement?  Just want something better?)

What is the issue with the current crop of wireless video doorbells (nest, etc)?
