Flues and air gaps

Recommended Posts

In the past when I had log burners, I got somebody to make a custom 'register plate'...so flue, into register plate then into the chimney 'void'

BUT back then I had proper fireplaces...

Now I have a freestanding log burner and the flue goes into the wall at 45 degrees then joins onto a flexible stainless flue pipe

The flue pipe is 15cm diameter going into a 25cm square hole so there are gaps which let cold air in

Can I fill the hole with rockwool or expanding foam?

Also where the flexible pipe exits the chimney there is an air gap....I nearly cemented the whole lot in (one guy told me to do that) but I left a gap cos somebody else said the air needs to expand as it gets heated!
