Hate crime laws could be extended to what you say in private conversations

Recommended Posts

So who decides what can and can not be hated then?

I am pretty sure people will quite openly say they hate...

Hitler

The Moors murderers

Jimmy Savile

Monday mornings

The Tories

Right wing people/politicians

Cliff Richard

MK Dons(sorry had to get that in)

Stalin

Or are they all OK

You know the types that will want this, the type of people who are constantly offended at everything.

It was OK to as good as dance and curse on Maggie Thatchers grave with zero comeback, but do that to a prominent Muslim person and you are in big trouble

Orwell knew what was coming:

Quote

In the dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four (1949), by George Orwell, the word thoughtcrime describes a person's politically unorthodox thoughts, such as unspoken beliefs and doubts that contradict the tenets of Ingsoc (English Socialism), the dominant ideology of Oceania. In the official language of Newspeak, the word crimethink describes the intellectual actions of a person who entertains and holds politically unacceptable thoughts; thus the government of the Party controls the speech, the actions, and the thoughts of the citizens of Oceania.[1] In contemporary English usage, the word thoughtcrime describes beliefs that are contrary to accepted norms of society, and is used to describe theological concepts, such as disbelief and idolatry,[2] and the rejection of an ideology.[3]

You need to be more eloquent and swap hate for 'extremely dislike' as they do not have 'dislike' laws and you can be a dislike extweemist.

Personally I dislike the word "hate", it's probably the worst 4 letter word out there. But at the end of the day it is just an emotive expression and if someone wants to express themselves using it then that's fine with me.

Had a now single  woman friend the other day tell me that she "hates short men", is that a crime because at the end of the day that is the dumbest reason to hate someone.

I often think about this, is the statement "I hate the Islam religion" and saying it in public Islamophobic?

I would say " I despise any ideology like islam that considers me to be an infidel / second class human that is to be lied to, subjugated, taxed, forcibly converted or killed" and simply hand over a copy of the koran as evidence.

I am with you Micky

And it's not the first time in the Britain we stamped out radical religion in Britain at a huge cost and which was protected be laws centuries ago

Sounds to me as if the Law commission needs to be purged. A disgusting proposition.

Quite scary that such supposedly intelligent and learned people can be in favour of such an Orwellian law in the first place! I would have thought even they would have more sense than that.
