My thing keeps going pink

Recommended Posts

Mostly, although not always, the "insert image from URL" doesn't work for me. I paste in the URL and press the button, then after a short but noticeable pause the background to the form field turns pink. That's it, can't post the picture.

I assume the pink colour is a warning message but what does it mean?

It means it's not a picture format that it recognises / allows.

It also goes pink if the link is prefixed "http" rather than "https" as that isn't allowed.

The above example "https://ibb.co/dck8d4v" is a jpg. I can't believe it doesn't allow jpgs,

The link doesn't say jpg and that is what the checker is looking at.

I have been brave and clicked on that link.  Instead of copying the URL you should right click for the context menu and then "copy image link".

As plain text for that image; now ending in .jpg.

Yes that worked; I would have been able to post using the link. Thanks. Maybe the checker only checks that an allowed file extension is in the URL, rather than checking to see if it is an authentic image format.

Very dangerous if so as I could insert a link to my_malicious_script.jpg !

It checks for valid formats, that's correct.

But surely inserting no extension is more unsafe than only specific ones?

If you try to rename a .exe file to a .jpg and upload it, it won't work btw.
