One album wonders

Seeing some Soft Cell performances reminded me how they absolutely ruled 1981 but after that brilliant first album: not much.

There are plenty of one hit wonders but there are some bands who release a stunning first album and, well, that's pretty much it.

Bit of an eighties bias here owing to my age but for starters and in what I think is chronological order:

The Sex Pistols

Soft Cell

The Associates

Frankie Goes to Hollywood

Terence Trent Derby

Black

The Stone Roses

Guns and Roses

Mellow Candle had one album - Swaddling Songs.  Not successful at the time, but has been quite influential and band members went on to work with other high profile artists.  I was going to post a song from Swaddling Songs on the 70s thread, but I'll add it here.

Black was a guy called Colin Vearncombe and the occasional backing artist. As Black he released a couple of albums, and quite a few as himself.

The The was another "one man band" but had several albums under that name.

I thought IV was generally regarded as their best album.

Anyhow Led Zep has no place on a one album wonders thread.

It does for me. I think they are over rated. They became "Spinal Tap".
