"Space Weather" incoming

Recommended Posts

A solar flare and a coronal mass ejection! The CME is due 22:00 our time I believe.  So unplug any electrical equipment just in case. (Phone posters here will be fine) xD

If it gets bright don’t look at it I’ve seen day of the triffids it won’t end well mind we don’t have triffids so that’s one less thing to worry about

A layer of water will provide sufficient protection.  So just shove everything sensitive into the bath. [Note, some electronic equipment may suffer side effects of being put in the bath.] No

If the world ends in the next 3 hours, i’m thinking you’ve left it a little late!

Thought I read Corona injection.

Well cheers for the heads up.  Most of my good stuff like my laptop plugged into surge protector plugs but guess a galactic attack would render my defense moot.

Do these things happen often and do they quite often target household appliances?

Could be connected to those alien dildos appearing in Utah and elsewhere 🤔

It's not "the big one" or another Carrington event, I can't see it frying equipment but might cause data loss or glitches

Ive read about the carrington event in some of the trashy end of days books i read.  Interesting stuff

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrington_Event

The Carrington Event[1] was a powerful geomagnetic storm on September 1–2, 1859, during solar cycle 10 (1855–1867). A solar coronal mass ejection (CME) hit Earth's magnetosphere and induced the largest geomagnetic storm on record. The associated "white light flare" in the solar photospherewas observed and recorded by British astronomers Richard Carrington and Richard Hodgson. The storm caused strong auroral displays and wrought havoc with telegraph systems. The now-standard unique IAU identifier for this flare is SOL1859-09-01.

A solar storm of this magnitude occurring today would cause widespread electrical disruptions, blackouts, and damage due to extended outages of the electrical grid.[2][3] The solar storm of 2012 was of similar magnitude, but it passed Earth's orbit without striking the planet, missing by nine days.[4]

Would be an "The end of the world as we know it" event today...hopefully just for a while

Anyone got instructions for a faraday cage?

Note, it isn't my fault if you've got so much sensitive electronic equipment that there won't be room for you in the bath as well.

You were too early.  There's no need to do anything before 10pm.

That is Star Trek levels of precision. I am always impressed when they need a CME to save something and are able to time it down to the second.

It was the same in Stargate where they used CMEs - because everyone with half a brain full of Temporal Mechanics - knows that CMEs enable people to travel through Time. We want to send a message back 10 years exactly. No problem, there's a CME due in a 5 minutes.

It can take anywhere fom 15 hours to several days for a big one of these to reach Earth. On the other hand, if it is bigger than biggly then it might surprise everyone and be here in hours.
