Beijing orders Chinese media to censor coverage of Alibaba probe

Directive to restrict reporting comes as speculation mounts over whereabouts of Jack Ma

In his last public appearance in October, Mr Ma, one of the country’s richest people, made a speech criticising China’s state-owned banks and financial regulators.

At the end of December, the Chinese government’s propaganda arm directed media outlets to “strictly invoke” the official line on the antitrust investigation into Alibaba and to “not make changes or engage in extended analysis without permission”.

Oh dear.

He might have fallen down some steps and broken his neck.

I'm sure he'll come back soon.  Maybe bit more low key or a reformed character.  Guy flew close to the sun.  Don't think you can do that kind of thing out there.

Read something other day about him playing his purpose - but going forward unlikely to be another superstar like jack Ma.  Need to conform etc

About to take a vow of poverty.

“My colleagues and I have been studying and thinking, and we have become more determined to devote ourselves to education and public welfare,” he said in the video posted on a news outlet controlled by government of the province where Alibaba is based.

When he criticised China’s regulators nearly three months ago, Mr Ma insisted he was speaking as “a non-professional not carrying any official titles”. The Alibaba founder, who turns 57 this year, officially retired in 2019.
