Dog walkers are increasingly being targeted by violent criminals intent on stealing their high value pets to sell on for profit.

Demand for dogs has soared during the pandemic and police saw thefts increase by two thirds in the first lockdown.

But it is the increasingly violent nature of some of these crimes that is causing added concern.

Mike Jasper was walking his sprocker spaniel Ted when he was approached by a man who started questioning him about the animal.

He was then assaulted and his beloved pet was stolen.

Thank goodness we have two random mongrels (not popular) and we are in rural France where there is no shortage of unwanted puppies. (Going very cheap.)

 

So I haven't heard of any instances of dog napping here. (More likely to get some newborn puppies dumped in your garden.)

Yes but its a couple of grand for puppies, the kennels are full of fully grown dogs.

I thought i overpaid when spending 1400 quid on a pedigree King Charles Cavalier in November 2019, 5 months later the prices had doubled.

My knowledge of the dog buying world is minimal, but when we were looking you could get a non-Kennel Club registered King Charles for £800, and people advertising fully grown dogs they could no longer look after were in the lower hundreds.

Unless theyre pinching them for breeding.

When we were looking there was one i remember that stated the pups weren't KC registered thus presumably no paperwork; but the woman selling them was a doctor and gave her credentials; in essence claiming these were enough to  not need paperwork. (this was the £800 pup)

From what i've read since buying our dog, you can get scammed just as easily buying a KC registered dog.

All a bit of a minefield.
