Yup, count me in too for a Citroen DS. The one above is real tidy.

Otherwise, I'd really love a first generation MX5.

I test-drove a couple - real back-to-basic fun driving. Bit of a story here: I very nearly bought one. I was actually test-driving second-hand ones, looking for a tidy example. Then things with my then-girlfriend took a serious turn, so I canned the fancy car and moved in with the girl.

I'm still with her, so I probably made the right choice. But still... :D

Oh, and finally, my third choice: Jaguar XJ6.

The MOD had this built and it was sold off after not much service through the usual Witham surplus route. I can't find a picture link but it also has a removable pod that can go on the fifth wheel, when the trailer is not attached, to be used as a normal-ish six-wheel Disco 4. I had actually looked into building something exactly like this myself before I knew they had this one made. It's not actually that tricky to build but it's bureacracy and regulations that add the stumbling blocks particularly taking the trailer over 3.5 tons gross weight. Many of those hurdles could be overcome with off the shelf HGV brake parts etc. but they then weigh too much for a trailer to be drawn by a Discovery.

  • 2 years later...

A continutation of this old thread from 2018:

I have never seen one of these (in any colour) in real life. But I was just ogling Auto Trader and came across a Verde British Ferrari. Looks like at least one person in the world has specced their Portfino in this wonderful colour. I've always wanted a British Racing Green colour Bentley Continental as my 'fantasy car'. But now I have changed it to this...

1. Porsche 928S

That is a car I would love to see remastered, it has so much potential to be tidied up and turned into a stunning modern classic...

Chewing Grass

It would be something interesting, totally different, stuffed with proper hard-core engineering that you can polish, paint and above all is interesting yet demanding to drive and own.

This is a Fiat 131 - Volumetrico-Abarth.  We had one of these when I was a nipper.  We had several 131s, but the built quality on the bog standard models especially, was bloody awful..

I used to walk past one of these on my way to school in the 1980s, except it was orange and black. That looked drop dead cool.
