Not really.

If a LL was canny they'd know a tenant could sign up then stop paying tge rent. It'll be 18 months before you get the place back.

Any LL ramping up prices is going to rent non paying sitting tenants.

No.

Any landlord now wants rent for the whole term up front.

If you can't afford it, tough. Somebody else can.

State of this country ! The carriage has survived since 1855 - inculding best part of 100 years parked in a field, then we get to modern day society "The roof has survived but all the glass was smashed by vandals when it was unearthed"

It's only property damage, either accept the damage yourself or ring the non-emergency police number for your crime reference number so you can claim on your insurance.

The online scammers renting out other people's homes

The online scammers renting out other people's homes

A scam where fraudsters con would-be renters out of thousands of pounds by pretending to own properties has been exposed by estate agents.

Adverts for house sales are copied from legitimate websites and used in rental listings on online marketplaces.

But when people try to move in - after paying deposits and rental fees - they find out the property belongs to someone else.

Mary Whitbread, from Bournemouth, paid up after a virtual viewing but has now been left homeless and thousands of pounds out of pocket.

She said she only realised she had been scammed when she showed up to move in and found a "for sale" sign on the house.

Estate agent Phil Skorochod said the problem was becoming more widespread and was leaving people heartbroken.

He has urged police to take action.

Nah, they just take off a roof tile, let the place get pissed wet through, mouldy and damp so the tenant is forced out (or appears on the news bleating about it) then claim on the buildings insurance to get it repaired ready for a new tenant to try their luck. xD

A family fears they will have to leave Cornwall due to the demand for housing.

Caroline and Dean Wade, who have been given four months to leave their rental home after living there for 12 years, say they face a "dire situation" trying to find a new one.

The couple, who have 11-month-old twins, said it was a "crazy" situation.

Cornwall councillors said they were due to lay out plans in September for more affordable homes to rent or buy.

Mrs Wade said: "I rang a letting agent ... and they said they had 200 applicants for one property that day."

She added: "Dean has lived here for over 40 years, I've been here 16. But we're not seeing how we can stay in Cornwall. We don't see how we can afford to."

Cornwall has to be one of the most unpopulated counties in the country, if people want to live there, they ought to build like no tomorrow.

Devon would be more suitable and seen as a similar 'empty' state as Cornwall for major house building.

Lots of Cornwall, away from the tourist coastline, has industrial past and present to deal with when looking for suitable areas to build on. All the old tin mines to avoid and ongoing clay mining with an eye on lithium mining now that is in demand for all the leccy car batteries.

Like Norfolk, Cornwall has resisted too many incommers by making sure there is barely suitable A road or train access. Motorways, what are those then? Only the brave dare travel to Cornwall for holiday with all the traffic chaos and constant threat of rain, so few think it'll be great living there all the time. Hence many places are second holiday homes barely used and the folk fly in to Newquay to avoid the riff raff on the A30. xD

Don't forget the radon gas! I'm sure @Frank Hovis will tell you that the Cornish are dropping like flies and it's too dangerous to visit.

Radon's everywhere but only seeps to the surface if there's a pathway to it such as old mine workings; these areas tend also to be infested with Japanese knotweed coming in from the wasteground of such areas so avoid.

The golden rule is: never have a radon gas test as you are then required to disclose that to a potential buyer.

The correct answer is "Dunno".

Bonkers really as this is usually just one wall or part of a wall - a previous repair - and it can be replaced.

I would buy a building with a mundic wall over a timber-framed, or steel-framed, house any day because you know that 80% of the house is structurally sound as opposed to potentally zero for the framed house.

Check in time again; last was 18th June.

Total rentals in all of Cornwall: 125 -> 112 -> 88 -> 75 -> 74 -> 63 -> 73 -> 55

I haven't been stripping any out of this so the headline number is unadjusted but taking out garages (2), land (1), fully booked for viewing (13) and winter lets (2) this is actually just 37 available.

Of which three bed or more: 63 -> 53 -> 36 -> 27 -> 30 -> 21 -> 17 -> 16

Of which £1,000 per month or less (ignoring fully booked for viewings): 19 -> 13 -> 6 -> 5 -> 5 -> 2 -> 7 -> 4

The last includes one in Looe, a "home by the sea". Unfurnished.  This is the rather unprepossessing exterior shot.

79147_000665897_IMG_07_0000.png

The total rentals figure is showing the trend best with a steady drop from 125 to 55.  It's getting materially worse.

This week coming is the first proper week of the season meaning that what temporary accommodation has been available - holiday parks, B&Bs - will be booked up.

I am starting to see a bit of a backlash on Facebook.

The 'looking forward to moving over' post is being met with 'just keep in mind for every retiree that moves over, a worker has to leave' kind of thing.

Started slowly but people are waking up.

Knotweed used to used around old mines and especially railway embankments as a way to shore up the sides. To provide strength without having to build anything. Thats why this is where you often find knotweed. Its gets onto propertie by owners digging elsewhere and inadvertently bringing small pieces of stalk on their shovels. It wont reseed itself.

That's really interesting point about the steep sides being contained and shored up by the roots. The absolute opposite would be Himalayan balsam. Super seeder with up to 800 from a plant, once established nothing else (even nettles and brambles) can grow, incredibly shallow root, annual. So a watercourse could have the sides scoured away in winter as there's nothing to hold the soil there.

Cornwall's hospital having to build new accommodation for workers, others commuting weekly from Devon.

The problems keep stacking up.

I know someone who lets rooms in his house to NHS staff (he's registered with the hospital, they place them with him and he's near-guaranteed decent behaviour) and they're never empty.

I just clicked on the link without reading your beach hut comment, and thought where is the 2 bed detached house.

Cornish council ought to build 1000s or these, knock them out for 500k a piece then they've enough money to build real houses for all the locals

Could be a bargain for a rich person looking to avoid an expensive divorce battle.

Thibk of the potential though. Build a grand design and itd be worth 10 times that. (it might be a bit of an expense delivering your blocks bricks, cement and bifold doors by helicopter though. 🤣🤣🤣

A two bed flat was put up today for £1,595 per month.

Clearly kite flying, but if it goes, it is very bad news for the locals.
