Saving their own skin, primary to saving their population. As you would yourself with a new pathogen on the loose and in charge.

Being seen to do the right thing more important, than doing the right thing but deemed to be wrong.

After going round the conspiracy carousel for the best part of a year now, I have come back around to my original thought when this first kicked off:

2nd Economic collapse incoming, therefore an excuse was required to print billions of pounds/dollars etc
