You bought at just the right time then.

Not very often but yes.  Started in the mid 2000s.  But gold hasn't gone up, more like fiat money has gone down.  Technically, maybe we now have the mother of all cup and handle chart patterns!

I disagree, gold has genuinely gone up because that's an chart stripping out inflation.  Though you could simply call this a rebound from a historic low.

This same argument has been used to support wild upward swings on crypto - fiat currency is being trashed.

Official inflation is 1.5% or so.  Maybe the real figure is 2.5%.

Whatever - it isn't 17% and it certainly isn't underpinning the crypto swings.

How unexpected that month-on-month inflation for USA is high! 0.7%  ... and that's the massaged CPI figures so basically double it eh.

https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/here-heatmap-todays-red-hot-cpi-report

The lamestream legacy media don't report any of it - can't have negative economic news with lovely cuddly Biden in office!

The normies also believe the bullshit the Fed puts out that all this inflation is 'transitory' hahahahahahaahhah just wait until this keeps going for months and months and months .... money printer go Brrrrrrrrrr

Noticed an outrageous example of shrinkflation this week, shower gel.

Now I know as a true dosbodder everyone will say 'just use some fucking soap, a bar of soap costing tuppence will last you and the family 5 years and as long as you pick your pube hairs out of it it can be used everywhere and anytime by anyone)

... anyway, I tend to use some of the hypo-allergenic shower gels, usually Sanex (don't worry dosbodders I use as minimum amount as I can and only shower every other day unless exercising!), so I'm pretty aware of the cost of this and tend to usually buy it on offers - 3 for 2 etc.  Usually the price point per individual large bottle is about £2 and will last me a good few weeks.

I had to buy some more as was running low on the last lot I'd bought (which were on a 3 for 2 offer), I picked up just a single one in Tesco (I know, ripping off bastards and I should get my arse down to B+M .... which I will) - the bottle felt smaller in my hand and I checked the volume; 415 ml.  This seemed an odd size to me, normally they'd be in easily divisible units, 100, 200, 400, 450, 500 etc.  Just struck me an odd number - had a look at some of the other stock on the shelf, a mixture of 'new' size (415ml) and older 450 ml.

I got home and checked against the old bottle I was using - yup, you guessed it, the old one was 500ml

So basically a whopping 17% decrease in pack size for the same money.   I suspect there was an 'interim' shrinkflation of pack size to 450ml (10% shrinkflation) and now this 'new value' size, to use marketing bollocks.

Looks like a trip to B+M for stock toiletry buying eh.

Aldi own brand rip-off Sanex is better than Sanex.  And a fraction of the price.

Of course, that would be insane - look at all the businesses also complaining that they can't employ any staff .... for piss poor wages.  Well you need to offer more money ... or we could just keep on having this inflationary spiral and then stagflation.  All great isn't it?

Nice, will give it a try, although any of the smellies containing parfum etc tend to fuck up my skin

Agreed, is there a pub or restaurant that you know of that DOESNT have a sign up asking for staff? :CryBaby:  Perhaps the penny will drop soon that all the cheap labour has gone home and theyll need to pay more than £10.50 an hour, considering housing costs 350K for a 2 bed semi or £1500 per month for a rental :wanker:

This also goes with the wages paid for kitchen staff/chef's - not just boil in the bag/ping a microwave ones too.  One of our neighbours used to be a chef, actually cooking food in a local non-spoons pub (the portions were a bit small but the food itself was nice tasting and better than your average spoons), anyway, he sacked it off and is earning the same (probably more now) at sainsbury's working on the picking team for home delivery, he's doing the deliveries too now and seemed to be doing quite well enjoying it.  Says the stress is 10x less for the same money - more now he's been doing lots of overtime!

No offence to any here but I think being a chef is probably the nearest thing to a job from hell. Stressed out, hot, long hours, anti social, poor pay. And then after toiling away for 8 hours you get some boomer Karen sort who wants to speak to you to make a complaint about her undercooked 'well done' steak and act like she's John Torode with breasts. Fuck that.

I know right, doesn't seem worth the stress

Anyway, went to the chippy tonight, observing the food price inflation;

Cod: £4.55
Chips (normal portion): £1.90

Got some small mushy peas and small curry sauce - can't remember how much they were individually but the whole lot came to £8.95.

Fish used to be ~ £3.50 then was rising in price by 20p every week or so
Chips used to be £1.50

mushies and curry sauce has gone up by about 30/50p

The base ingredients for chips, mushies and peas is fuck all - big inflation there.

We know about the rise in fish too.

A year or so ago 1 lot of fish, chips and peas was about £7.

Should have gone to fish Friday at Wetherspoons.... You would have got a free drink with the meal for that price!

Another thing that I noticed on going around 2 different supermarkets the other day was the real supply issues with frozen veg, there were basically mostly empty sections of the frozen peas/brocolli/cauliflower freezer sections and others (the more expensive ones that nobody bothers buying) were very, very low on stock too, there were signs saying apologies for low stock as they're having supply issues.

Anyone else noticing this?

Bog roll shrinkflation.

New lot of bog roll,  same price , larger roll ... or is it the cardboard roll insert  ...

I like those bum guns, they have in SE Asia.

Good blast with one of them, and then a quick dab with the poor quality bog roll on offer, and the old bullet hole is as clean as a whistle!

My recollection of bidets was they had a tap and i presumed you had to get your hand in there to give it a good clean, plus you had to squat down as if to have a 2nd shite. Just looked awkward.

Was another thing in the Great British class divide that separated posh people from us oiks who just used bog roll.

I for years assumed they were for washing your feet.

Agreed on bum guns. I’ve been told that the water pressure isn’t high enough to install them in the U.K.

And yet it's high enough that I mostly shower with the shower head on half pressure. May I suggest that if it's not enough to shift the clag nuts that you stop ingesting gorilla glue :Old:
