I just took them to a local farm I heard about, you take your apples and then 2 weeks later they have juiced, pasteurised and bottled them up.

Many thanks.

The golden days when I could collect up all the windfall apples and pears, turn them into cider and perry and spend the winter happily shit faced are, sadly as one with the songs of yester year. But it would be nice to have a few bottles of fruit juice on the side.

That's my goal for this year's crop, to make some scrumpy. I don't have any cider apples but normal eating apples should do.

If you are in Kent or Sussex I can share the name of the farm if you want. But there are quite a few that still do it.

Where a mate bought a farm in Normandy, they leave the apples left by the gate. The cider man takes them. A few months later, for every tonne of apples collected, he leaves a tonne of cider.

The cider gets distilled in Calvados.
