Makes you wonder why all the rolling news hype about the cat 2 hurricane doesn't it?

Some journalists get really excited about war and disasters. They used to get really excited about terrorist attacks but that is a no no now unless it is one of the rare attacks on muslims by non-muslims. Such events allow them to be the focus of attention - look at me, look at me!

Frankfurt Airport tweeted: “Fire brigade operations completed. Check-in reopened. No harmful substance found.

“Six persons under treatment with light respiratory irritation

Seems a bit contradictory.

In terms of terror it's not quite at the same level as a bomb but will still influence people's thinking and behaviour.

Like Kate Adie? lol

Do you remember that female "veteran" war reporter with the eye patch? she was blown to bits by a Syrian army howitzer shell whilst reporting from a rebel held area.

That was Marie Colvin. She was very good. She said things like they were. Proper old-school journalism. A real, actual journalist and not the media studies lot that pass for them, IMPO, these days.

How did she lose her eye?

Blimey.

She was a proper journalist - did proper research and investigations, went looking for sources and then backed up those sources. Would be a breaker of news stories by digging around and bringing us what was going on in the world. Not like the pampered lot today who seem to read out any press release handed to them and winge if their 5 star hotel does not have dry cleaning.

However, a criticism of her could be that why would we want to know? But that is an altogether different and much heavier discussion.

so let's get this right. any cunt can put a container of noxious gas into his luggage and walk through an airport like a crop dusting plane, and the airport gets closed?

it could get to the stage where air travel just grinds to a halt.

That airport was bombed in 1985 so the security measures maybe take that event into account but a container of noxious gas must be more difficult to spot as they didn't spot it this time - and every day it seems that more and more people that might want to do something like that are allowed to enter Germany and other places in the eu.

There was also an attack there by a gunman in 2011.

2011

An American military official told the New York Times the US was not ruling out terrorism, although it was unclear whether the suspect was acting alone or with partners. "I don't know if he's tied to a group," the official said. "But there is enough information at this point to indicate that he identifies with Islamist terrorist ideology."

It seems that even then there was the conundrum about whether he acted alone or as part of a group.  Some puzzles and the reasons for the multiple and increasingly regular attacks never seem to get solved and never seem to get worked out..

No.

No person arrested. No idea who did it apparently.

Media reporting it as tear gas but that has not been confirmed. Six people were hospitalised with breathing problems - tear gas usually causes people to have streaming sore eyes as well as breathing, puking up issues. Considering that no streaming eyes or puking up was reported then you have to wonder if it was tear-gas.

Probably some Chlorine freight that fell off the baggage truck.

Same thing at Hamburg Airport in February; someone practising?

On Sunday, German officials evacuated hundreds of travelers from one of the largest airports in the country after reports of eye irritation and breathing difficulties began circulating. People gathered in the security and luggage-check area of the Hamburg Airport reported symptoms consistent with pepper spray irritation, causing authorities to shut down the airport temporarily.

According to The Washington Post, 68 people were injured. None of the injuries were life threatening.

Based on initial assessments, police don’t believe that the incident was related to terrorism.

There was “no evidence” that the airport was struck by a terror attack, said Hamburg police spokesman Rene Schönhardt, adding that a cartridge of pepper left inside a trash bin near the security check was likely the cause of the incident.
