I just recently discovered you can access youtube music via https://music.youtube.com/

I also use logitech media server or lms sat on top of picoreplayer on some raspberry pis. This is really flexible in terms of using a DAC on your pi then you can use speakers of your choice

you can also hang some storage off your pi and keep your music collection there or stream internet radio etc

then I thought about youtube playlists and kerching there is a youtube plugin for lms, you just need to get an API key from google and away you go!

So if you fancy posting your youtube playlist I'll see if I can blast it through my Wharfedale speakers xD

this is super cool lol

so youtube random generated me this playlist

ie https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=kcPc18SG6uA&list=RDAMVMkcPc18SG6uA

so I took the part of that URL from v= onwards and searched for it in my music player and this is what I got...

it's using a skin called Material and cos it runs through a web server I can access this through PC, tablet, phone etc tada!

My er "family" had a family membership to You Tube One Music Premium Extra  - well in fact the name changed too often for us to know what we were paying for.

In the end it was so messed up with YT Music being subsumed into YT, so all your "liked videos" and "liked songs" got munged up together in an unfindable mess.

We bailed out for Tidal but the UI for that was just too awful, also we discovered that their MQ super fidelity was actually bollocks.

Now we're on Spotify which we initally avoided due to their well-known wokeness. Several playlist conversions have happened via tunemymusic and my stuff is even more messed up.

I want to go back to the old days when you just torrented a FLAC.

I’m sticking to analog and discs. My cd & tape collection has exploded in to the 1000’s since no one wanted them and give them to me for next to nothing.

True story I recently scavenged an ancient record player with a winder for playing ‘78’s, I’d never seen one before, let alone for free :)

Torrents have really fallen out of fashion. Many were illegal rips anyway. These streaming services have taken over. And I assume they are making money.
