I dunno. The Boomers didn’t know better. I look at the people 10 years older than me (firmly in Gen X) and they’re Thatcher/Reagan’s children. Arguably they’re worse.

Obviously DBs experience with the fox-hunt peirced the veil.

Mine was befriending some ex/current travellers.  I worked with some so saw these particular ones were top notch.  The establishment shite they had put up with, etc.  I don't think they appreciated what a profound impact they had.  Sure good and bad like anywhere but this was a privilege.  A major pilling moment.

buy a F1 level motorhome for £150k and travel............

Kinda looking to be talked out of it at this point. Thoughts?

Go for it.  My parents were quite adventurous, regularly moving in search of a better quality of life.  I have some great memories.

The only thing I would say, if you plan to homeschool, get in touch with other homeschoolers in the area so your kids can socialise. You may find your kids are having so much fun travelling with you, they aren't bothered.

I went to  7 schools - 5 primary and 2 secondary.  It didn't affect my exam results - in the top 5% of my year for O levels.  I was a girly swat though.

RE: Campervans - will there be lots coming on the market soon due to high fuel prices.

Someone else asked this. I'm thinking, maybe many retired people will head to warmer Med areas in their camper vans to avoid heating bills this winter. I know I would. Lots of free places to park up.

RE: Control of the masses - how do they do it?

As Rich Dad Poor Dad / Richard Kyosaki said, by keeping the masses financially ignorant. What did we get taught at school about money? I wasn't taught anything. The focus was get good exam results and choose a career path, be an employee. At no time did anyone say your options could also include becoming self employed, a business owner or investing, the  routes to Financial Independence.  RDPD's cashflow quadrants are an eye opener.

My eldest just got a place at our third choice school.

I'm looking at the UK, my job, and the macro situation and wondering why I wouldn't just buy a F1 level motorhome for £150k and travel. Even just in the UK. No work, £20k income from my portfolio and I'll "home" school the kids.

Kinda looking to be talked out of it at this point. Thoughts?

Use the 20k PA to live somewhere hot and cheap. Belize, Cambodia etc. You may even be able to get the kids into cheap schools. Even homeschooling they'll have a much better time of it than living in a campervan, in the rain, by the side of the A14.

Oooh Look, while the rest of the world is increasing borrowing rates China is cutting Mortgage Rates so people can invest in empty boxes in ghost cities.

I got cold feet on China after that Napier podcast I posted to which I add the geo political climate a la Russia.  Glad to find I hardly got back in apart from a fund.

TOO LATE! :(

I opened an ii ISA account this morning, and then saw the 'referral scheme' :Old: surprised no one here mentioned this FREE £200 ?! Probably all LOADED here and want to stay anonymous!xD

ii online reviews are very GOOD, the only reason for opening another ISA - is simply not to have all my eggs in one basket, having a large amount of funds in HL is probably safe if things go tits up,(it's been discussed here b4) but i just feel happier with funds split between 2 brokers...

ii fees aren't too bad, Stocks and Shares ISA costs £9.99 a month, you get 1 free trade per month, HL costs ya £11.99 per trade! So I'm OK with it, ONLY disappointment is my fees for the first year could have been waived!!!

SO anybody thinking about opening an account with ii, shoot me a PM, and ...we'll split the difference!

Congrats.  Enjoy the real market access, etc but alas not the multicurrency due it being an ISA (a silly rule).  And yes, quite cheap if you use the free trade, plus your fees holiday.  I'll be interested how you get on versus HL.  I've experienced both.

PS:  Whoops, you didn't get the fees holiday.  They often do deals though on (partial?) transfers in.

Meet in the middle of the country….Leeds. York if you want posh.

Avoids the £28 for watered down pint in London and the freezing winter that starts in the North East early June onwards.😆😆

Joking of course….we don’t really like any ‘outsiders’ coming into gods own county.

Happy Friday everyone enjoy the weekend 🥳🎉👍🏻

I would tell them to wait. I wanted to design fighter jets and initially was sponsored by BAE to study a mixed engineering course. Frankly, 30 hours of lectures and labs is just too much like hard work when most other people have one third of that and are enjoying themselves the rest of the time. I switched to a softer course and now regret it. If I'd waited until I had that teenage booze/birds phase out of my system, and done a few years of full time work, I'd have probably been able to stick at the engineering course. Knowing what I know now, I'd hold off until early/mid 20s at the earliest.

I got that degree from one of the top 3 unis in that subject. Did me fuck all good in the end. You need a bit of luck after graduation as well as hard work.

I think that system is over, because that veil is now gone. This will be the first big turning with the internet. I wouldn't like to be landed gentry watching TV right now knowing every angry peasant getting their bennies cut and sky tv cancelled can boot up Google maps and case every inch of their property from untouchable satellites.

My old man built an internal farm road on his hill farm which now appears on Google maps as a road, faint grey, which brings tourists up it every sunmer. Little do they  know the danger they are in, though the road isn't quite in shotgun range from the house. Read that across all visible property, and x1000 for the rich estates. No more retreating from public view, they may as well be on Broadway.

Some aspects of this cycle change are going to be very entertaining.

I agree. There is nowhere to hide in the UK. It's simply too densely populated. There are some wealthy folk who still hold delusions though.  A shotgun is totally pointless when faced with a determined starving mob. A good parallel would be WW2 and the massive movements of people that created. Every farmhouse was targeted and smashed and quite frankly you were better off blending in and storing food in a non descript semi.

Having said that rant I'm all in favour of us dosboders buying up land. There has never in our history been a period where it was possible for the common man to buy land at such cheap prices as it is to today. 1 acre is 10k. Look at how much land we have in the entire country then RUN to buy it. Stupid toffs will soon realise what dumb ****s they are.

For those saying Newcastle is a shit hole and saying come to stabby stabby London are you mental O.o There's much lower chance of any bother up here when some of you shandy drinkers get a bit shouty as well as less chance of DB getting knocked off or poached by some jealous London stock traders :D

Seriously though I'm up for meeting you lot but reckon we should let @DurhamBornd decide the location and dates. It should be the cheapest night he's had out wherever we meet as I hope he won't have to buy a drink all night

First time hearing about this, mind you the whole "blitz spirit" propaganda was always bollocks. Unless you meant occupied Europe?
