Roger Mellie's objective assessment:

I haven’t been in a clothes shop, or any other inessential shop, since the lockdown shite started last year.

There is no need for me to buy any new clothes because I have plenty however I used to occasionally buy items i really liked if I was out and about browsing in e.g tkmaxx

I did need to buy some new pyjamas earlier this year but just bought them online.

Until stupid restrictions are gone, maybe never?, I will not be in any shop other than for essentials.

It's fucked.

Completely fucked.

Been out shopping for clothes this afternoon in the half of the high street that hasn't shut down. It's completely obvious that clothes shops have no new stock coming in and haven't had any for a while.

And the high street in general is completely and utterly fucked.

If you need some clothes get them whilst you still can.

The high streets I agree are fucked but had no problem geting more school trousers last night nor fluffy pjs for a 3 year old.I’ve aready not turkey gravey granules just in case

How bad do you think it is going to get ?

What do Dosbodders do with their old clothes?

Wear them.

I wear worn out holey clothes for gardening etc. After further disintegration they’re used for cleaning rags.

I feel like I've been preparing for this moment all my life. Got too much stuff, that will probably take at least 10 years to wear out.

Still going through M&S socks I bought in bulk 8 years while they were still good.

I wear my pants till it's only the skid marks holding them together.

After further disintegration I also use them for cleaning (toilets, kitchen surfaces etc).

I had a little walk up town on Friday morning, the first bit was the old main street from the bridge (it was on the main road to Scotland up the West Coast) which was the shopping jewel from the 1880s to the 1980s. First 200 yards shut and abandoned, next 200 yards vape shops, tat shops and asian newsagents. Then to where Boots was and the Banks were, just 'The Skipton' now with a shut down 'Cash Generators' opposite followed by some place doing Covid Testing on the corner which was another Bank, the Jewellers has also gone along with McDonalds.

I have just checked street view from 2018 as a comparison and its like Beirut in the destruction and desertion even though the idiot council has chucked multi-millions at it.

There is even the much lauded Cineworld and other 'entertainment stuff' and a plaza with restaurants and dining terraces but I suspect they will be toast even though they were only opened 6 months ago.

I have a t-shirt that I know for a fact I bought over 10 years ago. It's still in perfectly good nick.

Thankfully I'm pretty much as thin at 37 as I was at 27.

Recently I mentioned to my brother how I'd owned the t-shirt 10 years and he went all Gok Wan on me "oh you HAVE to throw it out and get something new then".

Um....no mate. No I don't.

There's a company, I think it's Cineworld, is renovating a cinema in Belfast and building ANOTHER cinema in Belfast about a 15 minute walk away. And there's a third cinema, an Odeon, less than 10 minute walk away from the one Cineworld are building.

That's some faith in the future of the cinema industry.

Hmmm, I've not noticed much in the way of lack of clothing stock here in Swindon except for the lady hasn't been able to get tights in M&S for a number of weeks. Not that I've seen much of her really, been out with my neighbours quite a bit recently and flirting with women in the local. She's been better though, thought we were going to split a while back! Just the whinge about M&S to note, nothing that was my fault 😂

I think we might be about to engage in a game of four Yorkshiremen, but I'll start.

10 yr old clothes are nothing.

I only have one suit - and its the one I got married in in 1992 - and it still fits...

I have loads of clothes that are much more that 10 yrs old - a lot T shirts worn regularly are well over 20 yrs old.

My hi-Vis running Tee shirts are 26 yrs old.

I rarely throw any clothes away. I've got underwear I've had for 15 years.

Matalan had a sale on four items I wanted to buy a couple of months ago. Or was it they were massively reduced and fit and weren't that bad really?

I hate shopping for clothes.

@Roger_Mellie try Wednesday or Friday when the market is on. Usually pretty busy.

I visit the Admiral Casino near the fountains at a minimum twice weekly - flow of punters pretty clear.

The high street is not dead yet...

I am the same. Most of my t-shirts and polo shirts are from my yacht racing days.

I haven't raced competitively since 1999.

I also stocked up on knickers from M & S where packs of 5 were half price, on 3 for 2 and enhanced cashback and free delivery.

It was that long ago I can't remember when it was, but I still have one or two packs not started.

I still have loads of "good" clothes from when I was working and plenty of tat for playing in.  I daren't even count how old some of my stuff is.  Buy once last forever springs to mind.

Though I do seem to have a waterproof coat fetish.

I still have a tshirt from 1987 I wear occasionally.  I am not sure how the hell it fits me - I am twice the size I was then.
