Bona Vacantia Land

Question

Anyone here had any dealings with the BVD?

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/refer-bona-vacantia-land-or-buildings-bvc2

There's an overgrown strip of land behind my garage that's wide enough for a car. Found out that it's still registered to the company who built the houses on the street, but they're dissolved so can't contact them about it

I would just clear it and start parking on it, but someone on the adjoing cul-de-sac is convinced it's his, as are all my immediate neighbors, so I'd rather be a piece of paper brandishing arse.

Maybe I'm being paranoid?

This would be the line I would be concerned about (as I'm not sure what you mean by behind your garage).

BVD will not generally sell or transfer:

  • land used in common such as roadways, verges or amenity land - this will be disclaimed

That was my worry too.

Apologies- context was lacking: zoomed in bit of the deed attached. The house is the left red outline, the garage is the other red outline, detached from the house. The blue shaded area behind the garage is the spot I'm interested in.

The footpath runs behind the garage to a neighbouring cul-de-sac
