Robertson Screwdriver (Square) - #4 Brown - Where To Buy One?

Don Coglione

Question

Don Coglione

After hours of pain and an incorrect purchase, I still need to source a screwdriver (or drill bit) suitable for a #4 Robertson square-headed screw (approx. 4.83mm recess width). Despite a very helpful supplier, I can't find one anywhere, although there might be somewhere in Canada that can help.

Any ideas from the handy here?

Ta.

Thanks, but that's a red, I need a brown. These things are a minefield:

Isn’t google amazing.  :) (or the search engine of your choice)

SQ4 I think is the right one, seems to be more common european designation,

Thanks, but if that's a 1/4" drive, then I can't see the head being 4.83mm.

If neither of the two options above work, what about just filing a hex bit to size?

Again, thanks, but I have decided to cut through the screws (I can get a blade between post and wall).

Just a normal hex drive.

They have some specs in the listing......

- 1 piece

- available sizes: SQ 00, 0, 1, 2, 3

- conical dimensions of the square:

SQ 00: 1.26 x 1.33mm

SQ 0: 1.78 x 1.95mm

SQ 1: 2.33 x 2.50mm

SQ 2: 2.85 x 3.10mm

SQ 3: 3.38 x 3.45mm

SQ 4: 4.80 x 5.30mm

- Length: 50mm

- Shank: 6.3mm

- made of special steel S2

- very good quality

- Manufacturer: Fa. Arndt

Thanks. From the above, SQ4 is not available, but in the drop-down menu of sizes, it appears to be.

For the sake of a tenner or so, I will give it a go.

Cheers.
