i've been thinking about buying 'another car' recently lol

Mainly cos I'm overdue seeing some folks in England.....been looking for something 'cheap n funky' on copart....

Citroen C5? actually I've come to the conclusion you can't go wrong with a Mk8 Civic...1.8 petrol, nowt goes wrong with em or if it does they're cheap n easy to fix, bags of space and a bike fits in the middle when you flip the back seats up...

AND they still look quite 'modern n funky'.....the metallic light blue is nice too

PS that 205 is for hairdressers.....ragtop at least stick with an MX5.....again nowt goes wrong with em

I have always liked the 205 convertible. This example is particularly nice.

Not sure it's "worth" even half that amount, frankly. But I'm still used to 2019 prices.

Er, define "quirky/different/interesting" and how it applies to the car you just posted.

One man's interesting is another man's spygirl post....!

What I really meant was, don't post a fucking anorak car like this, which I know someone will.

I admit I have never really understood the definition of the "hairdressers car". It seems to be if it's a small convertible. Is this a hairdressers car?

that's a minter bro! nice color too.....

how about a DS3 with a 1.6 turbo engine? I drove one ages ago and was really surprised how well it went....I'd been driving a 207 with the same motor and the DS3 was in a different league...so much so I thought it was chipped.....

the Seat Leon with a 20VT engine was an interesting car too...180 brake and it went really well......I had one and the Seat garage 'fettled it' cos I bought it new but the ESP had been wired up wrong......the mechanic who took me on a drive test was a bloody good driver.....he was turning into corners using the ESP to slow down rather than the brakes......I should have gone on more driving courses....you can really motor with less than 200bhp if you know how to drive properly :D

For me it was less the convertible aspect and more the "feminine" side. An Audi TT strikes me as current hairdressers car versus its bigger brother the R8. Likewise a SLK, not the bigger SL/AMG

I reckon it's just snobbery based on the price myself. Nobody thinks an Aston Martin Vantage Roadster is a hairdressers car because it costs £130k new. Size wise it's not much bigger than an MX-5, and the frontend is uncanny in that it looks almost identical...

for sure price dictates some of the aspect. but then that ties with the type of car for the price. MX5 was/is deemed a hardressers car yet a MR2 or Lotus weren't (from what i recall).

Some TT models are nearly up to £70k now. A boxter GTS is basically the same price as a caymen GTS. Generally men are going to for some models, vice versa woman the others. I see mostly wimmin driving TT's round here.

who cares what people think anyway. buy what you can afford and will enjoy.

DS3 diesel was a brilliant little car, extremely light steering though which I was not so much of a fan of.

Wondered what those RCZ's are like, think they look nicer than a TT, build probably not the same though,

Had an MX5 (NC) for a couple of years, solid, reliable and zero hassles. 207CC low miles bought for peanuts provides for some summer driving if the sun comes out again for more than 20 minutes.

Ah now that you mention it, I have always preferred the Boxster to the Cayman. I'm in a minority I know, but I think convertibles look better than coupes (which look better than saloons).

Particularly when it comes to Porsche, the 911 convertible looks miles better.

My dream car would probably be a convertible 911 Turbo S. A supercar but not many people realise just how quick they are. Almost on a par with a litre sports bike.

or get the 718 spyder for best of both. for me I do lean coupe and so I'm not a big fan of the 911 convertible. I did see a brand new Targa the other day that looked really good imo. first one I've seen in a long time.

Fiat Coupe. You'll get a non turbo for under £5K, though I'd pay a little more for a turbo version. I had a normally aspirated one until the kids came along. The best car I've owned by far.

I'm guessing the lack of roof affects rigidity so much that it's only worth around half of those with roofs?

I've been wondering about the merits of an old skool modern classic like the 205 GTI or the newer 306 (I had a 306 XS back in the day and that was brill for what it was) as a daily driver to enjoy motoring in a relatively simple/pure way while it's still possible, but not sure how affordable it is when surely all the desirable stuff will be priced well above £5k unless it's one of those that people buy then find they never use as it's either always broken or just a pain to live with.

Not sure how they'd hold up when 20+ years old, would the rubber and plastic bits be perishing then there's the rust issue and how easy replacement parts are to get hold off at a reasonable price as stocks dwindle ...

A guy near my parents has an old Capri and Escort mk2. Cars that back in the day were just normal fodder but now are rare and perhaps like heroes better off not finding out how they are in reality when viewed through modern eyes where some would gasp in horror at having to manually wind up windows. xD

For something a bit larger I'm thinking BMW 5 series E39. Had one of those back in the day and first car that felt solidly built. They're probably smaller than the current 3 series with how cars keep growing each generation. xD

The Golf GTI Mk5 is another I've often considered, as it's apparently one of the better older GTI generations. The special editions (Edition 30, and Pirreli with the tyre track seats) are likely already on their way to modern classic status with prices likely to rise further accordingly.

A Ford Puma, a proper one though, not any of that modern shit.

Something like this :

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202205195862182

I'd have a grand and a half left, which I'd throw at getting it serviced, having some bodywork done, filling the tank and maybe treating it to a valet.

Cheap, handles nicely, does ok MPG and is small, plus it has four seats and a surprisingly large boot for such a small car.

Perfect!

Sasquatch

I've always hankered after a Triumph Stag. However I suspect one bought for £5,000 would be a bit of a shed.

One day Rodney.
