I need to maximize my earning potential and I’ve got a potential part time job as an ‘consultancy’ to some bank

What should I be charging, this work is supposed to be the gravy train right?

im thinking 500-1000 a month as a retainer

For me it depends on the client. Anything from 0 to 2k with most in the 500-700 quid a day.
I only really do 1 day a week or so, sometimes not even that much.

I remember about 10 years ago quoting a local quango 750 quid a day for a 3 month contract. They came back to me and said it was too cheap. FFS. It was about maximising output from wind turbines. At the time the answer was 'you cant do much more' but they needed someone to put 3 months into it to come up with that conclusion.

Come to think of it, if I got that again I would probably charge out now at a sack of rice and a tray of tins of beans per day.

you got 1k a day to tell them how to maximise output of wind turbines, for a government QUANGO? Was it a real wind farm or just some random report?
