The normalisation of female obesity

That's not the point.

It's that models used to be amazing and have now dipped to merely better than average and, as I noted, no longer have north European colouring.  These three for example would probably be "too white" today.

Here's an excerpt from an interview with a Czech model agency worker, Sasha Many, last week (excuse the poor translation, Google does not have a good grasp of Czech)

The article was titled:

The dictates of the fashion industry are strict. I'm sorry girls with curves, says Jana

In the 1990s, sensuality prevailed among these faces. Versace returns to this, as do many other brands. Watch it to be ahead and know what kind of faces they might want from you?
It is said that it was Versace who discovered these models in the 1990s and came up with sensual faces. In fact, it was the other way around. It was the Elite agency and its founder John Casablanca who came up with this style of beautiful sexy models. Of course, Versace, Valentino, Dior, later a video of George Michael and so on helped.

It was definitely the most beautiful time for me. Unfortunately, I feel that under today's dictates of the fashion industry, we are still very far from sensual and sexy curves. We are very sorry that we have girls who have very nice female figures, and we have to tell them that if he wants to do top modeling in New York or Paris today, he can't have 93 on his hips, but he has to get to the maximum. 90. We ourselves feel that this is also against aesthetics, but as an agency we are not here to decide what will happen. We have to follow the requirements of the designers, and they are very strict. Far from sensuality, unfortunately.

So... Not much commercialising of fat = beautiful there.

She thought it said Demand Butter

It's not like we're taking the piss of random overweight women in the street. Its the fact that she's trying to promote her gluttonous lack of self control as  positive lifestyle that is reeping

The popup ads of Victoria's Secret are all wrong these days. I deleted them constantly and when Google asked why, said because she's a fat lump - didn't work and I'm probably on a feminist hitlist somewhere now. :(

Their models used to be beauty icons - maybe it's not just for the fat women, but so that more men can say "I dated someone who was like a Victoria's Secret model!"

When you examine the photo closely, you can see why it might be appealing to many women though and allow them to identify with the model.

There is a visible strain on her face and in the waist area from flexing what torso muscles she has and sucking in that gut. Most women probably have to do that in bikini pics.

But if fat is beautiful, why do that? And if fat isn't beautiful, why not have a fit model?

A brand that used to be highly desirable, now repurposed to sell fucking ugly garments to chubby fuckers who look ridiculous in them.

I think the secret is that Mike Ashley bought Victoria’s Secret.

I think the scary thing is, the photo of that model is what's considered fit these days.

Any thinner is 'unrealistic'.

Not here. She'd be considered a fatty. There are more fatties than there were, though.

Perhaps that's the key to living somewhere where the women are slimmer - if there are mountains all around, then there's going to be a tendency to be fitter, because if you want to do anything in the mountains, being fat is a massive handicap. So Genevan women are generally fitter than UK women. And Chamonix women are fitter than Genevan women.

You've missed the best part of the year to telework from Chamonix - from now to Christmas is about the only time I wouldn't want to live there.

I think most people would still class that as fat. Even these days.

She certainly wouldn't stand out hugely in the UK though.

This image comes from a Scottish Herald article complaining about a “postcode lottery” for diabetes treatment. I agree it shouldn’t be a lottery, type 1 diabetics should get priority access.

The most unpleasant thing about that victoria's secrets model is her sneering facial expression. As well as being a fat lump.

I think she’s just doing her best to hide her double chin. Facing Up stretches the neck, if she smiled it would lower her chins and you’d see them.

She looks very similar to a burd who passed my missus and I and gave us a big smile/hello on one of the rare occasions she actually came out for a walk. After the burd had passed, missus said "Now I see why you like going walking on your own".  "Tut tut, so cynical", I said.....
