Fave Christmas Song

Recommended Posts

Time for a light hearted and seasonal thread.

We all know xmas is over commercialised bollocks these days, but I have to admit that for 2 weeks of the year I do enjoy a lot of the Xmas songs, even Elton John and Chris Debleurgggghs.

So, this is the post your fave Xmas song thread. If I had to choose my absolute fave it would have to be this.

My favourite, it's honest!

I also like this for some bizarre reason.

There is no NYPD choir!

I also like the E17 song but that's a product of very canny marketing to get it thought of as being a Christmas song when it isn't anything of the sort.

Read the lyrics if you doubt me:

Haha, yes very good marketing indeed, it's still not coming off my Christmas playlist though!

My favourite. This is the Christmas version, rather than the later more popular D major version that lacks the four Christmas hymns

Background music during food

Profound those lyrics. It must have taken time, emotional labour and a lot of pain to produce. xD

I was going to go for Greg Lake or Chris de Burgh to be different but strip away the decades of over-exposure and try to imagine hearing Slade's "I wish it could be Christmas every day" for the first time.

It's a superb song.

That's by Wizzard. It's a considerably better song IMO than Slade's "Merry Christmas Everybody", which beat it to the Christmas No1 in 1973.

Slightly ashamed to admit it, but I think Mariah Carey's "All I want For Christmas Is You" is a lovely song. Not going to link to it!

I meant Merry Christmas Everybody, I was a bit thrown by the lack of Youtube search results and that would explain why!

Rather sadly, you posted that on the 21st anniversary of the death of the lead singer.

Two of mine are Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas sung by Judy Garland, who captures the underlying bleakness of it far better than anyone else. My eldest daughters call it the "HYAVMC and fuck you!" Version.

and Sleigh Ride, by just about anyone, as an antidote to that 2 1/2 minutes of subtle misery.
