clamity clegg to get a New Years honour. Really?

It is now the 21st century and I can't believe we still have this archaic honours system which is so gender specific.

Liberals and Socialists such as Clegg are showing great hypocrisy by taking this awards, they ought to be campaigning for a non-binary awards system.

and being another unmitigated liar including about tuition fees.

The Honours list so ably demonstrates the dishonourable LibLabCon in action.

So many of the comments after the article are against.

Why is Clegg getting a knighthood.

He was a disaster for his party undoing all the efforts of his predecessors and achieved nothing politically including losing a referendum on PR.

Some Lib Dem grass roots supporters think he was always a secret Tory infiltrator sent to destroy them.

Maybe that is why he is being knighted ?

Edited. I think this now superbly explains why he got his knighthood

Looking back at all the leaders of the main parties over recent decades that sums up their general role within all those parties - to destroy the country as well.

The real travesty is not that Clegg has a knighthood but there are over 100 Lib Dem peers , a number completely out of proportion with their actual popular vote in the commons.

Just another part of the farce that is the current British Parliamentary system.

If the British establishment end up being ousted by Steptoe and the Trots in Momentum it will be a fate they have bought upon themselves

Blair did his best to re-enact 1984, it’s only right that Steptoe gets a chance to do the same with Animal Farm.

Just wait until Vince Cable gets his gong if you think Clegg is a step too far. I'd challenge anybody to name anything useful that those two fuckers have ever done in public life.

Erm... Are you thinking of Sir Vince Cable or a different one?

(Sorry to ruin your morning!)

Same old British honours system.

Gongs all round for nonentities, time servers, failures and crooks.

BTW I am pretty cynical about political promises but the bare faced lies Clegg told about tuition fees to the students who voted for his party in 2010 took even my breath away. Is this really the type of behaviour amongst politicians that should be honoured.?

The British system is very much an anomaly in Europe, even back when they were all monarchies. The idea that a piece of paper can elevate you from the political gutter to gentry or nobility, they would find this absurd. All those European counts, marquises, cavaliere, etc are inheritances from the past, not new creations.

One guy at work has insisted upon having MBE as part of his works email address.  I don't know him but would lay money that he is a sewn on prat.

I think we all get pissed off about who gets these awards based upon our (possibly false) memory of their actually standing for something but I know Lloyd George was giving titles for donations to the Liberal party a hundred years' ago so there is a long tradition of their being meaningless.

It's time to recognise that they have as much value as an average grade O Level and that Frank Hovis OBE sounds just as pratty as Frank Hovis B in O Level French.
