My god, the mirror website is as bad as those of the local, provincial rags. Unreadable with the adverts and pop ups

Didn't want to use the Daily Mail for a quote as some members don't like it.

Obviously the Mirror has now sold out its status as the paper of the industrious working classes.

Thats why my backup was RT rather than some limp socialist rubbish.

Sadly, the daily fail seems to carry stories others don't and on a decently supported website.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5215749/At-four-people-injured-blast-St-Petersburg.html

Fixed, it actually is a better source of news as it has proper photos.

Properly written article as well.

' Officials said that the explosion was caused by a 'homemade explosive device'.

'Structurally, the only a wall and a cash register inside the supermarket were damaged in the explosion. '

It's weird isn't it (and I hardly dare say it) but the Mail seems to be one of the only decent news sites. I'm not sure though whether it has got better of the rest have really gone to shit in a big way. A bit of both perhaps.

The Mirror owns most of those provincial rags now. I believe they have mostly centralised the websites of them and run them all mostly out of an office in Brum.

Run?  They don't run at all.  I've given up on my local paper as the website is too slow to use. The paper copy isn't much better. Can tell they are not local reporters as they get basic local stuff wrong.

It's like their mission statement is to minimise the amount of traffic to their sites.

For years the DM had the best weekend magazines - still does - on both Saturday and Sunday. Both are big reasons why people still buy the Mail on thoe two days. You would think it would be easy enough for other newspapers to look at the success of those mags and simply copy them. Nope.

It is the same with the DM website - it is not that complmicated but other UK newspapers fail miserably at their own sites. The Mirror, Express and Sun are dire. Broadsheets not a lot better if better at all.

But then you look at Amazon. It is simple yet numerous other websites fail where Amazon succeeds. Toys R Us - try using the search function to find something. What a POS. No wonder the company is dying.

Haaving worked with loads of retailers I have found that many of them - these super expensive execs - are really crap when it comes to the internet and usually huge egos. They are often surrounded by highly paid but fawning sycophants who do whatever their boss tells them.

Don't tell anyone but we used to buy the guardian and observer at the weekend. Mainly for the supplements. The TV guide in the Saturday guardian was second to none. However, they have gone all sjw special snowflake and the price. It's eye watering.
