Man stabbed to death in Eire, two others injured.

Japanese student murdered. Two Irish men injured.

The attacker is believed to be from Syrian, aged 18.

Gardai are trying to find a motive for the attack, including to learn if the attack was planned. They are also investigating whether the attacker knew the victims - or if the stabbings were carried out at random. They currently believe that the attacks were random.

Just another bit of random enrichment and diversity. All part and parcel. Nothing to see here. Just go back to your soaps... And dont whatever you do start asking awkward questions, or we will have to villify or even imprison you.

Yep, no famous people affected in any way. No ex-footballers or pop singers were harmed. Parliament will get an extra army company to defend it just in case.

Oh dear. That's just a hop over the border from me. Dundalk is a bit rough, but you'd  only expect a slap or stab from a.local really - you know sort of friendly like.

I think ireland has taken in alot of middle eastern migrants i know some terror cells were busted in Dublin and one of the London Bridge attackers was traced back to a Dublin connection.

I'm gutted because Ireland was going to be my safe bolthole i have lots of family there.

"He is believed to be 18 and from Egypt.

Initial investigations indicate that he may have applied to remain in the UK, but may have been refused and entered Ireland following the refusal."

Theyre not going to be able to play it down as a local feud.

Remember this guy? He also lived in the ROI

Ironically the ROI is not following the Dublin convention and letting them all stay.

If the attacks were random then youd expect the odd stabbing of a  muzzer  by a brit.

A murder suspect in the Republic of Ireland was carrying at least two knives, police have said.

A 24-year-old man from Japan died after being stabbed in Dundalk, County Louth, and two others were injured following subsequent attacks.

When asked if it was terror related, a Gardaí (Irish police) spokesman told a news conference it was "a line of inquiry'.

They said they had not yet established a motive for the attacks.

The murder happened at Avenue Road, Dundalk, shortly before 09:00 local time.

The victim, who is from Japan, was stabbed to death in the street and two other people were attacked.

The man who was arrested is 18 and from Egypt.

It should be headline news across the world

If an Irishman had stabbed a Syrian dead and wounded two Egyptians then it would be; with headlines like:

"The victim sought sanctuary in Ireland and instead found death".

The other way round doesn't count as news.  Part and parcel and all that.

2pm - Suspect revealed as Egyptian, not Syrian

The suspect in the fatal Dundalk stabbing is Egyptian not Syrian as widely reported. It's understood he came to Ireland recently.

2:20pm - Route of terror begins to emerge

Gardai state that the attack began on the Avenue Road shortly before 9am when the first victim was stabbed to death. At 9.07am at Seatown, beside the Windmill, a second man was attacked with an iron bar. Following this at 9.32am a third person was attacked at the Inner Relief Road. The gardai then disarmed a man in the area and took him to Dundalk Garda Station

The victim sought education in Ireland and instead found death.

If you are from Japan and considering going to college in Dundalk it may be safer in Aleppo.

Can anybody explain why young men with knives from Syria are so far from home ?

It's been a sad couple weeks. Two people I work with - or have worked with in one case - have passed away.
One lady, retired at age 65 in 2011 (a year before I began working there) but carried on working two days a week on a casual basis, passed away last week. She did retire for good 3 years ago aged 71 after he brother passed away. She got only 3 years worth of real retirement. Cancer related. It was a shock as she was quite physically fit for her age. She was the archetypical "Boomer" that we all used to moan about on here.
The second was announced this afternoon. He joined our first floor office from the downstairs warehouse last spring. Despite sitting at a desk almost opposite him, none of us knew a lot about him. I think he was in his early 60s, single. So not even made it to retirement. His mum called to announce the sad news. It must be very tough when someone loses a son or daughter.
Sad events like these certainly makes the idea of early retirement a lot more appealing. As one of my colleagues said after the announcement: "You never know when your time is up"

My cycle route to work goes past a lot of apartment blocks and other housing. Over the years I’ve seen the depressing site of an ambulance (usually with a fire engine indicating it was an emergency call) picking up some old person on a gurney. Some were probably dead but most were not (but soon would be). After seeing another one this morning it occurred to me that this is probably the path to death that the largest proportion of people take. I can count half a dozen from my own family for example. The problem is that it’s so fucking miserable.
So, how best to bypass the few horrific days in hospital prior to death that usually follows the early morning ambulance pick up? Even better now to avoid the pick up entirely?
