I had to do a number of online courses for work.  Equality and diversity, prevent and other carp. I found that if you got the answer wrong, you could just repeat the test. Ended up clicking randomly on the tests until I got it right, had the stupid learning videos in the background muted down whilst I did other stuff.

Legally speaking, how do they expect to get away with "fining" you?

no idea but your sighning there terms and conditions,i said the same thing regarding minimum wage and the 12 hours pay they had offered for something they admit will take a minimum of 30 hours to do and get the cash only once its passed months later on prescenting a certificate

You're a care worker aren't you, Stokie? Employers of care workers are spectacularly uncaring about their employees, but I'm a bit surprised that what they propose is legal - are you sure it is?

aparently the directors have said were doing it,one is a dr i very much doubt he knows much about employment law.the hospitle is aparently haveing a change of direction (chaseing more cash i suspect) ironicly cqc was in for 3 days this week for there anual inspection.

I think anything goes in the brave new world of employment in the uk.  One reason they disembowelled trade unions.

Just outright illegal then. Similar to the channel 4 expose the other night on Premier Inn cleaners.

Personally, I would scheme and document their abuses then sue/report/tribunal them - maybe start by contacting ACAS and see how they can help. It sounds like you need a job, they know you need a job and they are exploiting you because of this. Stay calm but plan to stick the knife into them, hard.

Do you enjoy being a carer?

Would you enjoy it?

I thought I might get life satisfaction from getting paid to help others. I started in the area of young homeless people. Oh dear, 9 out of 10 “clients” didn’t even try to engage with attempts to help them with basic life skills. Also 9 out of 10 came from single parent homes or from the “looked after” children homes. Hmmmmmm.......get them younger was my thinking.

So, I ventured into the world of looked after children i.e. kids taken into care. I lasted just over a year there. IMO the majority of kids in state care will not do well in life, statistics reflect that. Males are likely to enter into crime and females into single parenthood. A few are lucky. What a disaster area.... looked after children...it’s full of lefty type childless females who have no idea about setting boundaries or rules for kids to get them on the straight or narrow. The homes the childcare companies put looked after kids in were mainly out in the countryside....out of sight! Sadly parentless kids arrived with their possessions in bin bags in the middle of the night. How sad!

Anyway, @stokiescum the reason I resigned was because the dipshit ageing childless female house manager informed me that I had to get a SVQ? in childcare. WTF?

In the discussion she told me I would just have to do it (the criteria was it was free if you stayed 2 years if not you had to repay). My response was I disagree because I feel I don’t have to anything I don’t want to plus I had a first class degree in psychology so I didn’t feel that SVQ was appropriate educational advancement for me. She sort of laughed at me so I said have you got a sheet of paper. She did, so I wrote my resignation out then. When she read it she expressed horror and disbelief.....you can’t do that. O.o. Well, said I, I have done it.....I’m outta here!

Dont get me wrong...it caused me some hardship doing that but I survived!

Doubt if that's legal if Stokie is on a full 'normal' employee contract and has done a year or two in the post. If it's one of the zero hours exploitation contracts, then maybe.

i dont enjoy work full stop, care is where you can help people .all much care is now is prolonging life just for the sakes of it.

If you don't enjoy it and they are paying you shit and treating you like shit then you should feel liberated in leaving. You can help people in many walks of life. Good managers help people, entrepreneurs help people, warehousemen help people.

£27k is an excellent salary for Stoke. I don't mean to be funny, patronising or dismissive.

What is it you hate about the jobs you have done?

What he    :Old: says ,don`t resign just refuse to do it let them sack you at least you have a chance of unfair dismissal

My sister works in that sector and they can`t get staff for love nor money my bet is you hold more cards than you think
