Celeb boom bust

On one level celebrity tittle tattle but on another this is a reflection of our illogical gravity-defying economy.

Daniella Westbrook (the pretty one in Eastenders who then took so many drugs her nose fell off and, without being too ungallant, is no longer as pretty) has just bought a new £65k Range Rover.

Now ok "bought" probably doesn't mean handing over £65k of cash but even on PCP that's going to be serious money.

This is three years on from when she was using food banks and IIRC spending the odd night sleeping on a park bench because she couldn't further impose on her friends; and then moving into sheltered accommodation (social housing).

And bar the odd soul-baring interview doesn't seem to have done anything since.  Yet now with a £65k Range Rover.  I trust that prior to buying this she has made a generous donation to the food bank she used.

File under Kerry Katona as having no obvious means of support yet usually living in some eight bed mansion.

Neither of them seem to do rich boyfriends,; rather the reverse as they attract those who see them as meal ticket.

How on earth does it all work?  If three years ago I had been using food banks, been homeless, and not done any work since then I wouldn't be able to buy a Range Rover.  I wouldn't be able to buy a pushbike.  And I doubt that she would be the first choice to publicise Range Rover.

Christopher Ellison and Leslie Grantham in Mob Handed (2016)

EDIT: Just watched the trailer on YouTube. Looks shit. Think I'll pass.

Firstly, that car is used sounds much nicer being approved...

The children of a niche celebrity attend our children’s school and he turns up in either a BMW i8 or Lamborghini whenever he’s not out of the country endorsing products. Last year it was a Ferrari. His income can’t be that high as he only works a few months every year and makes media appearances perhaps a few dozen times as part of a much larger celebrity cohort anyway the rumour among other parents is that he is loaned them (cars are used approved btw) as his ownership of them apparently adds value.

I bet Miss Westbrook has quite a following in Essex... many would feel they’ve made it driving a celebrities castoff.

A little anecdote is that I bumped into both Danielle Westbrook and Patsy Palmer on a night out on the Kings Rd. DW was an absolute delight, chatty, friendly whilst PP was an absolute biatch screwing her face up and having an air of self importance, she wanted us to feel like shit on her shoe. ~17 years ago.

The amazing thing about celebrity is their sheer earning power even in the absence of any talent or even any positive features whatsoever.  I think that there's nothing that they can do other than child porn that'll remove this status, once gotten.

This crosses with the "investment" theme on the Integrate thread.  Who is actually shelling out moeny to fund these shockingly poor films as the money will just be lost?

Well the trailer gave the impression that it was shot on virtually no budget.

And I'm guessing Burnside and Dirty Den are desperate for work, so work for cheap. So someone's done a forecast "if we cast Burnside and Dirty Den, and put them on the cover, people will remember them and we'll sell X amount of DVD's".

Or perhaps the aim with this sort of crap now is to sell it to Netflix?

I wonder is there any public money that is tapped into to fund these things?

I did have a look for funders but got no further than "Gangster videos" being the production company but not listed under that name at Companies House.

A salesman tried to flog me a Jeep with the line that it used to belong to Stan Collymore. I asked if they had managed to get all of Ulrika's blood off the seats. I didn't buy the car.

The Dogger's vehicle of choice then.

Along with the Range Rover.

Not unlike a lot news celeb news and gossip is completely made up. This is the answer to all inconsistencies and reality defying scenarios it seems to throw up.

The picture is actually the rather horrid new Land Rover Discovery BTW
