NATO members stand off in Northern Syria

Recommended Posts

After invading Afrin in Northern Syria Turkey has announced an operation to take Mambij starting in "the next three days". The Afrin operation killed 3000 kurds and created around 120,000 refugees in a province that had, until now, avoid the insurgency.

France, worried about the Turkish advances, is sending soldiers to Manbij and they will be joined by American forces in what promises to be a standoff between 3 NATO members in Northern Syria.

Back in Afrin and the dreaded ISIS White Helmets have been installed in Afrin to "help the local population".

A little funny thing -- Turkey (or, a company based in) is responsible for maintaining the engines of our F-35 fighter jets.  I suppose if we started an offensive against them we could just use the Typhoons.

Seriously? Did the UK tax payer give the EU money to give to them to oust a UK firm?

Just checked - the decision is basically made by the Yanks. The Turks do our engines. We do the avionics. Parts are held in Holland. Italy does major construction nd re-construction.

Frightening.

It all makes perfect sense.

The aircraft are fantastic except and until it comes to a war, at which point the old 'attrition' gamble comes into play.

It all makes perfect sense for the Americans.

In order to sell its Fwhatsit the US gave Turkey exclusive rights to service the plane.
