Victoria sponge.

Battenberg is of the devil.

Well, I like Battenburg cake! A slice of that with - it being more or less pure sugar - along with a cup of coffee is the nearest thing I get to speed these days.

Used to buy an immense Polish cake from the Bondgate Bakery in Otley. I used to call it bukakke cake due to the way it looked. Was a bread sort of cake with rhubarb and icing on top and it was delicious. Have never seen it sold anywhere else since. I actually got one of my colleagues to ask for a large slice of bukakke cake as I told him it was a Polish speciality. #Bantz

Agree.  I love almonds but cannot stand marzipan. Horrible stuff

Possibly you've only tried cheap marzipan made using essence of almond (ie, which isn't made from almonds -- benzaldehyde IIRC)?  Marzipan made using only almonds is much nicer.

If theres icing on a cake I peel it off (too sweet) as it detracts from the cake. Likewise I hate the 'cake boss' american thing where it is all sugar craft, huge amounts of it!

I really like icing.

This looks nice.
Just imagine it with thin icing drizzled over.

Nah, looks like a crumble so it would have to be Custard.

Once had Russian shortcake made two welsh ladies in their eighties that had a sugar glaze rather than icing from an old WI recipe that has disappeared.

Looks like this but more colurfull and with a glaze.

Absolutely fab-u-lous daarling.

You could enhance that with a layer of icing.

I think I am an icing addict.
