Hayek says Actors must take paycuts for equality

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hirsuit Mexican actress Salma Hayek has said #timesup for male Actors who MUST take pay cuts so women get an equal salary

Quote

“Time’s up. You had a good run, but it is time now to be generous with the actresses. If actors ask such inflated fees it will leave nothing for actresses. If the movie’s budget is $10m, the [male] actor has to understand that if he is making $9.7m, it is going to be hard for equality, otherwise they will kill the movie.”. Hayek whittered to reporters in rain soaked Cannes "It is a very exciting time for men now. Because men have the opportunity to rethink what it means to be a man, and this comes with a lot of freedom." She prattled, "A lot of beautiful, peaceful men have been the victims of the bullying men who think that the identity of a man has to do with violence, A lot of men have suffered from that and have had to become that way too when they didn’t want to go in that direction.” Hayek describes herself as a "coloured actress" - yeah white coloured.

Yes, I'd noticed that, I also thought he was dead.

If she wants actresses to get more pay she should commission more scripts with actresses in the lead role.

The Wonder Woman remake apparently did very well and I bet the male actors were (quite rightly) paid less than the female lead.

The funniest thing about all this is that they always want some patriarchal figure to take control, recognise their worth and fix things for them.

I for one won't be happy until Pepsi and Shirli are paid the same as the Rollin' Stones. I mean they're men and women in the same industry, so it must be sexism that causes the lads to earn more.

xD xD xD

Income inequality amongst the ultra-wealthy is a non-story.  For a start, they've all got agents to negotiate their income for them.  Beyond that, the income of the ultra-wealthy is absolutely only ever about how much wealth they can generate -- for actors, it is about how many bums on seats they can get.  If there is inequality in 'bums on seats' factor, then that is what you address, not asking others to take a cut even though they've got a superior posterior factor.

There may or may not be income inequality amongst normal people -- this is where any efforts should be expended.

[FWIW, I'm not sure there is inequality of earning potential, and that is all that matters.  It is difficult to say, though, as all the data presented is designed to generate hysteria]

I'm totally on board with this equal pay thing..  it's absolutely time women stepped up and start pulling their weight.

In this case female playwrights and actresses should stop slacking off and start adding enough value to make their contributions worth the same as their male counterparts.

Us men have been letting them ride our coat-tails for far too long now.   :Passusabeer:

No way should Jay and Silent Bob earn the same. One of them never has any lines.

Yeah, but on the flip side Silent Bob is way easier to dub, so it works out evens.

So Cannes came and went and there was virtually no coverage on French media. In the past it would be none stop.
Was it the fact that this was the festival where women were going to take control? Maybe the patriarchy was putting them back in their place.
Following Cannes, the festival president Cate Blanchett has been living as a bag lady with a voodoo doll of herself

or maybe she's going to appear in the Thunderburds movie?

Highlight was Bradley Cooper's girlfriend on the red carpet, looks like she forgot something, erm, what could it be?

#time certainly isn't up for beautiful women not wearing very much at Cannes. You go girl.
